You Love Movies, But Do You Love ALL The Kinds Of Movies? Which Production Categories of Movies Do You Enjoy?
Here’s what I mean by production categories: (1) theatrical releases (e.g., tentpole movies, independent films), (2) made-for-TV movies (e.g., movies made by the broadcasters for their own platform(s) [e.g., Netflix, Sony, SyFy, HBO], (3) direct-to-video movies (e.g., stuff that shows up on tubi, adult entertainment). I am including only for-profit movies in this topic. In other words, no jagoff YouTube crap.
My own answer is: I like theatrical releases, made-for-TV movies ONLY if they come from a premium provider, which means nothing from SyFy, Netflix or AMC, and I am FASCINATED by some of the direct-to-video stuff. I admire the hell out of people like Shannon Tweed, Andrew Stevens and Andy Sedaris, who basically made cottage industries out of themselves with DTV mini-empires. How cool is it to make movies that star YOU, surrounded by gorgeous people and lots of exotic locations and things, and make a fucking living off it while also living the life of Riley?! So I enjoy my Category 3 movies both for the movies themselves AND for the entrepreneurial cojones behind them. How about you? What do you like?
