What would you like to see more of and less of in films?

I would like to see more:

-diversity of characters
-original stories
-nudity
-creative or unusual approaches
-films directed by women
-same sex romances
-trans characters

I would like to see less:
-remakes
-sequels
-reboots
-comic book films
-predictable and formulaic films

What about you?

reply

more:

-original stories
-creative or unusual approaches
-universal themes

less:
what you said as well as films developed around any hot button issue of the moment

reply

More:

- Intelligent screenplays that aren't littered with plot holes and flat out stupidity. And scripts with dialogue that sparkles instead of making you wince.
- Stories that make you sit up and take notice, or draw you in and make you forget yourself.
- More lavish adaptations of good books. For instance it's high time the English adapted the Harry Potter books as a television series with one season per book.

Less:

Dumbing down and fudging.
Political correctness and Wokeness.
Comic book movies.

reply

Personally, I like wokeness.

reply

I don't. It is revisionist nonsense and will do a lot of damage if it catches on in a big way.

reply

I don't think it will do any damage. I think it is good to give people opportunities that they might not have been given in the past.

reply

I have nothing against equal opportunity so long as it doesn't cross the line and become about equal outcomes. But I don't like to see something like a black Mr Darcy in 'Pride and Prejudice' in the interests of racial diversity. It's historically inaccurate and silly.

reply

YEAH...THE REAL MR DARCY WAS WHITE...WAIT,..UH,NM.

reply

Uh oh, Allaby... incoming shitstorm in...

reply

I would like to see more female nudity like topless in movies and more soft core sex exploatation scenes done in a semi humorous way. I would like to see movies not take themselves seriously and go all out there with mature themes. Also would like for movies to slow down tempo and build the story the proper way. You know, the introduction, the plot, the climax and the ending. Modern movies think they have to have tempo at the climax from beginning to the end and I find that stupid. Also I don't care if female or male directed a movie, I find that to be kind of pandering. If you are a good director then I don't care about your background or what you are it is irrelevant.

"I would like to see more female nudity like topless in movies and more soft core sex exploatation scenes done in a semi humorous way."

Sounds good to me.

reply

More monkeys.

Less superheroes, unless they are superhero monkeys.

reply

Monkeys are good. Bring on the monkeys!

reply

I've been saying this for years.

reply

Right turn Clyde.

reply

You better know those movies were going through my mind! Although Clyde was technically an ape. A rule of thumb is "monkeys have tails, apes don't".

reply

Monkeys aren’t a bad idea, but there needs to be a new twist with them. Like maybe a movie about a monkey who gets bitten by a chicken that ate some radioactive bird feed. Then at the full moon the monkey becomes a were-chicken who goes on a rampage through town. I’d see that movie.

reply

A monkey werechicken. This could work.

reply

• Budgets going to more original, risky ideas
• More letting people with vision do their thing
• More shooting on film
• More practical effects and optical compositing
• More atmosphere
• More bold and creative cinematography
• More casting of non-movie stars
• More consideration for the fact that everything that appears on screen means something
• More non-traditional approaches to narrative, structure, pacing
• New genres, genre fusions, and non-idiomatic filmmaking
• Return of hand painted 2D cel animation

• Less studio committee filmmaking
• Less cynicism
• Less blatant checklist ticking
• Fewer sequels, reboots and remakes
• Complete ceasing of all use of CGI
• Less embarrassingly formulaic trailers
• Less making everything unnecessarily bombastically epic
• Fewer jumps and slams in horror and suspense films
• Turn the audio the fuck down in theaters

reply

Those are all good ideas.

reply

Cha Ching !!! ☝️

No argument with any of those points.

reply

Yee! Another one:

• Bring back "kid's/family" films with dark and disturbing shit in them

reply

yes to all of this.
except...i might part company with you on that volume business. if anything, in my region i occasionally find the volume a bit too low.

reply

The spot on sound guy is ever elusive, but I'll trade ya! I don't make it to the theater much anymore, but every time I have in the last few years it seems to be getting increasingly head shattering, and the subs are cranked so hard it's like a character sets down a glass and the screws holding your seat together are vibrating loose. I bring my own Loctite now! Not to go full boomer here but I'm fine experiencing a movie without feeling like I'm literally strapped to the Top Thrill Dragster.

reply

"I bring my own Loctite now!"

Clever and funny line, zephyr!

*Movies about Boxers or MMA guys
*70s exploitation copycats with unnecessary violence and female nudity
*Cops on the edge, breaking a few rules to bust the psycho guy

Less:

*Movies about marriages and relationships, who cares??

reply

I expected this😬

reply

You had it coming, buddy!

reply

I always seem to😎

I like Sci Fi so anything that is original and well thought out works for me.
I would also like to see more comedies with good plots that don't rely on slapstick and F bombs to get laughs.
There is one remake I would like to see and that is Forever Amber. I love the book and the 1947 movie was so watered down - it would make a fantastic period piece and all of the juicy stuff could now be included.
I want movies to be fun and entertaining.

Less political correctness and wokeness works for me - it doesn't need to be injected into everything.
I don't want to be preached to - if I want enlightenment I'll read some non fiction or watch a documentary.
