Well watching the Exorcist again I think its earned all the praise.

Are we supposed to believe that Linda Blair did all the acting for this movie. I'm not sure. Who deserves the Oscar?

When the movie was released the studio did try to keep it on the down low that another actress did the demon's voice. Mercedes McCambridge had to complain in order to get a credit for her work.
