How does Parasite compare to past best picture winners?

I think Parasite is a worthy best picture winner, but not one of the absolute best. Here is how I would compare it some other BP winners. I'm not going to list all of them because there are too many.

Parasite is better than these past winners: (listed alphabetically)
Argo
The Artist
The Broadway Melody
Cavalcade
Chariots of Fire
Chicago
Cimarron
The English Patient
Gladiator
Grand Hotel
The Greatest Show on Earth
The Great Ziegfeld
Green Book
How Green Was My Valley
The Hurt Locker
The King's Speech
The Life of Emile Zola
Marty
Mutiny on the Bounty
Oliver
One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest
Ordinary People
Out of Africa
Patton
Rebecca
Rocky
Shakespeare in Love
Slumdog Millionaire
The Sting
Titanic
Tom Jones

Parasite is not quite as good as these past winners:
American Beauty
Annie Hall
Ben-Hur
Birdman
Braveheart
The Departed
Forrest Gump
Gone With the Wind
The Godfather
The Godfather Part II
Midnight Cowboy
No Country For Old Men
Schindler's List

No idea, I haven't seen it.

Parasite is a great film. I would recommend you check it out. It is currently available on blu ray, dvd, on demand, and available to rent or purchase on iTunes.

reply

Good to know !

reply

It’s the first time my favourite film of the year has won since Annie Hall (I think). Top ten or fifteen winners ever for me, probably, if I took the time to work it out.

reply

Cool! That's great!

reply

Thanks! I was sobbing and am still shaking... of course that could be all the coffee I consumed during the ceremony.

reply

I'd have a few more from the top list added to the bottom list.

reply

Definitely in the top tier for me. Film is probably my favorite Oscar winner since No Country For Old Men.

From the list that you said that it isn't better then, I think it's way better then American Beauty, Birdman, Ben Hur, Braveheart, Departed, Forrest Gump, Gone with the wind, Midnight cowboy. Just my opinion.
