Wasn't Expecting That... Bong Joon-ho wins Best Director! I was sure Sam Mendes was going to win for 1917 but I am happy Bong Joon-Ho won b/c is a great film.

That is the biggest surprise of the night! Everyone was convinced Mendes had it. Mendes won the Golden Globe, the Bafta, and the Directors Guild. Congrats to Bong Joon Ho!

Yeah I was surprised. I've seen both films and I loved the way Sam directed 1917 so I was rooting for that but I'm glad Bong won

I agree, it seemed like Sam Mendes was winning it. But I love a good shock, and this was one.
