Really old-time songs 🎵

Even if you love current music - pop, hip-hop, country, rock, heavy metal, or whatever your favorites, are there any old-time big band/WWII era songs you like?

One of my favorites: Jo Stafford - You Belong to Me

I can't say why except there's just something about that era that I enjoy immensely.

That is such a classic, a beautiful song. I love the old time stuff:

Gladys Moncrief - Vilia (1930) {This song from my childhood haunted me because I thought it was "Ophelia" so I could never find it}

Ronnie Ronalde ( The Yodelling Whistler ) - Bells Across the Meadow (1949) {My father played this often}

Eileen Donaghy - The Flower of Magherally (1957) {For my Irish ancestry}

Nice! Do you have a favorite Andrews Sisters song? I know it's hard to choose...

I love the harmonizing of the old time groups/duets or whatever.

Nice! I really like the Andrews Sisters. It's the harmonizing that gets me. Love it.

Not quite that old. My dad used to play Johnny Horton in the car all the time. He wore out numerous 8 tracks and later cassettes. It stuck. Now I keep the CD in my car. Only thing is I can only play it when alone. My wife hates it.
My favorite is Sink the Bismarck from 1960.

“North to Alaska”. See the movie

“The Battle of New Orleans” Everyone liked that one. I’m surprised your wife doesn’t. My grandson at the age of 2 could sing it through! He’s 32 now; hmm wonder if he can recall...

The following animation is good! The ad before with Bill Murray is a hoot!

“All For the Love of A Girl”

I don't see the ad because I have adblock.

The ad is set into the film in the beginning. I think you can advance, Skip Ad. Try this one:

One of my favorite songs of his is "Here's to the Band." Probably not as well known. Hard to find a good version, but...

Judy Garland songs from the 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s:

The Trolley Song, For Me and My Gal, You Made Me Love You, Smile, Zing! Went The Strings of My Heart, On The Atchison, Topeka and the Santa Fe, Chicago, San Francisco, and of course 'Over the Rainbow'.

Loved Judy singing I'm Nobody's Baby in Andy Hardy Meets Debutante from 1940 when she was 18. What a talent she was.

reply

I'm a Judy Garland fan, too. All of those songs are great.
