Perfume/cologne warning - A public service announcement

If you're one to slather on colognes and perfumes, keep in mind that our sense of smell is closely linked with memory, probably more so than any of our other senses.

Now you're asking what does this have to do with my wearings of the perfumery, pray tell?

Here it is: If, wearing your scent of choice, you meet someone and that someone has a bad (or possibly terrible) memory associated with that scent, you could likely leave a very negative impression on that person that could prove impossible to overcome.

You're welcome.

Do you like vanilla scented perfume? I'm wearing it today!

reply

I like vanilla flavored, better. ;)

reply

Sometimes perfume ends up in my mouth. It does not taste good!

reply

You’re right, OP. Smell is the sense that most strongly evokes memories, as in Proust’s Remembrance of Things Past.

Isn't the only reason perfumes/colognes were ever used in the first place was to cover up their body odor, as they didn't take a shower every day?
