I haven't watched a new movie since 2016...

Anybody here beat that record?

reply

Not all...but outside of 4 movies I haven't been to a theater since 1999.

reply

That's pretty good. What was the last movie you saw in theaters? Mine was Deadpool.

reply

Terminator Genisys

Since 1999 I’ve seen most of Tarantino’s films, True Grit (2010), The Revenant (2015), 1917 (2020) and maybe a couple others that I can’t remember.

I have seen plenty of kids movies and many retro showings also.

reply

About the only thing I think I would be interested in seeing would be retro movies, before the digital era.

reply

Yep. 60’s-80’s is my preferred range.

reply

You should check out Detroit, Wind River, Dunkirk, Phantom Thread, War for the Planet of the Apes, Annihilation, US, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood

reply

IVE WATCHED 5 SINCE YESTERDAY.

reply

May I ask your age? I was the same way from the ages of about 16-- to about--28.

Do you fall into that range?

reply

Have you always been into movies? What kinda stuff you into?

Kinda bummer you have to keep stopping and starting movies. I hate having to do that.

reply

reply

sadly, you haven't missed much

reply

That's kinda the thing...I watched tons of movies when I was younger, then one day I just kinda felt like I seen it all, ya know? Like at some point you've seen about every plot point, nuance, dramatic twist etc. there is.

Everything seems like a slight variation of something else you've seen before.

It's also hard for me to read fiction now too, for the same reason.

reply

Finding Dory in 2016. But I've been to see old movies in theater.

reply

Awesome. You get it.

reply

No. I highly prefer movies from the 1930-70s, but I will watch certain movies just to test it out... I've usually regretted watching a "new" movie. The one that I did like in 2016 was a guy who says he's retiring (Ken Loach), "I, Daniel Blake"

The "newest" movie that I considered GREAT was "Buffalo '66" which is 22 years old.

reply

I know what you mean. It would be fun to do a graph for my top 100 based on year.

reply

Buffalo 66, huh? I didn't really get that movie, but I miss that era of filmmaking.

reply

I still watch new stuff but more out of a sense of duty to stay aware than anything. Pre-90s is where I live.

I have to acknowledge that I do occasionally find inspiration in new movies, and if not, the experience is likely to reinforce my passion for the olden ways and feels.

reply

i watched 146 films released in 2019, and i'll probably watch #147 today.

i always find lots of things to enjoy, & lots of things that are recommendable.

reply

YOU AND I SEEM TO HAVE TO SAME OPINIONS ON "NEW" FLICKS...
