IMDB's new look

It sucks!

reply

It looks unprofessional, with the white search bar against a black background, at least the backgrounds are still white on an actor’s page.

But even that looks amateurish with the website changing colours depending on the page you’re on.

reply

Reminds me of those brain-dead templates that amateur website builders can use because they don't know how to build a decent and practical site. Just add photos and away you go.

Not everyone wants to swipe their way through a website.

reply

lol yep, probably been designed for smartphones at the expense of desktop.

reply

Exactly.

Designed by someone who never gets their head out of their phone and assumes the rest of the world is just like they are.

It's websites for lazy people.

reply

"Mobile first" design has been the model for a while now.

reply

Any designer worth his salt designs for mobile, tablet and desktop though. The desktop and tablet design would look far better with white as background making it easier to read.

reply

Oh come on, that's nothing compared when they deleted their message boards.

reply

That was more to do with taking away your voice. Now they want to take away your brain too.

reply

At least it's still useful. They completely destroyed BoxOfficeMojo (which belongs to the same company than iMDB).

And it's happening more and more. Sites with a very good design are changed for the sake of being changed, and the new design breaks the usability. It happened to DeviantArt, and Reddit, to name a couple.

reply

Deviantart's new layout is awful but at least they give you the option to use the old layout if you prefer.

reply

It's designed to 'enhance the consumer experience' or some other corporate speak.

reply

It's obviously for synergy.

reply

Synergy! Yes!

reply

Whilst totally ignoring what the consumer actually wants.

reply

But isn't that just the way of the world nowadays; phones, computers, media, you name it.

Why are you changing everything (again)? It worked just fine before.

reply

its defintitely soethign to take notive of

reply

It's ugly.

reply

They are following the trend of dumbed down interfaces, presumably for tablet and mobile users, to avoid the problems of making the site look good on multiple platforms. I can't really blame them from a practical standpoint, screens come in all shapes and sizes these days.

reply

The Black on Black is driving me crazy.
