What are some of the movies with best narrative/dialogue/speeches?

Looking for movies which has meaningful/powerful dialogues. I loved movies such as Great Debators , King's Speech and A few Good Men.

Let me tell what drove me to post - this:

That was a good movie. I really loved that movie.

If you like Charlie Chaplin, don't miss Monsieur Verdoux

Actually, I don't. I have never been a fan of slapstick comedy. But the clip you have shared is not the typical Charlie Chaplin I know.

reply

Charlie Chaplin is not only slapstick comedy. He created one persona, Charlot, and became famous with its slapstick comedy. But his later movies are far more serious. Limelight is just beautiful.

I was genuinely not aware of that. Thank you.

You're welcome ^_^

Don't dismiss his early movies neither, though, specially the longer ones. The Kid, for example, has slapstick comedy. But it's not those comedy scenes what makes the movie great, but the dramatic ones. Same thing with Modern Times, or with Gold Rush. Chaplin became famous through his comedy, but it's within the drama where he really shines.

Poolhall Junkies (02) is a very good movie with a brilliant bit of dialogue by the immortal Christopher Walken

Youtube 'Walken Lion Speech' robocop
I'm going to do that right now for the twentieth time👍

I heartily recommend some 1970s British historical miniseries for great dialogue.

*Elizabeth R
*I, Claudius
*Fall of Eagles
*The Shadow of the Tower
*Edward the King

Nice!

A few weeks ago I was wondering about old BBC historical series, I even checked a couple a couple of blogs looking for recommendations. I trust much more people here, though.

Check out George C. Scott's speech to the troops in Patton (70)

That is some great stuff right there!

Conan the Barbarian (82) has magnificent dialogue

The opening chat about The Riddle Of Steel (Conan's dad is William Smith!) still gets to me
Father to son, laying it all out

The discussion between Conan and his best buddy Subotai about their gods really delivers

The greatest guy movie line of all time...'What is best in life?' and what Conan responds with!

If you like great dialogue watch Conan, the 82 version, not the crummy remake with Mamoa, only the first 15 minutes of that Mamoa one was any good

Not only the opening like you said, but I always dug Thulsa Doom’s awesome speech: “You broke into my house, stole my property, murdered my servants and my pets. And THAT...is what grieves me the most! You killed my snake!

Army of Darkness - Ashley J Williams

Alright you primitive screw-heads, listen up! You see this? This... is my boomstick! The twelve-gauge, double-barreled Remington. S-Mart's top of the line. You can find this in the sporting goods department. That's right, this sweet baby was made in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Retails for about a hundred and nine, ninety five. It's got a walnut stock, cobalt blue steel, and a hair trigger. That's right. Shop smart. Shop S-Mart. YA GOT THAT?!!!

That should be every guy's last line before we jump off the planet
