Likely natural disaster

What natural disaster is most likely to occur where you live?

For me, it's probably a tornado. 🌪️

Extreme heat and a power outage = death.

This thread reminds of the Twilight Zone episode where Earth is supposed to be heading into the Sun, but than at the end you realize, Oh Earth is actually moving away from the Sun. I always wondered as a kid which would be a worse death.

reply

Cold is a much bigger killer than heat

That episode was on yesterday! Not really a favorite as it is just a young woman hallucinating that it is too hot when the opposite is true

reply

After living here, "hot!" I gave it more thought. With cold don't you just kind of go to sleep. With heat I think your suffering would be much worse. So if Earth has to leave its orbit, I hope it goes away from the sun.

reply

Yes, just because cold kills more people doesn't mean it's a "worse" death than death by heat. I have no idea..BTW the actress in the above episode (who imagines it's too hot due to being sick with fever) is now 80 years old!

Lois Nettleton? I just saw that ep for the first time a couple weeks ago.
I didn't think the story itself was all that interesting, but it was a nice short bit of theater, convincing and easy to relate to.
A lot of TZ I find hard to watch but that episode was a good one.

Earthquake. As long as we have small ones, that will keep the big one away hopefully.

reply

Earthquake. Supposedly we live on some sort of subduction zone similar to the California coast that could shift at any time.
Actually kinda scary. I'm not prepared, emotionally or otherwise, for that sort of thing.

reply

Oh you should be scared. Epic Earthquake..Did you not see View to a Kill:)

reply

Lingering coastal storms aka Nor'easters.

reply

Can't think of one. This is one of the most geologically stable areas on the planet.

reply

Shhh. Don't tell anyone. You might end up with an invasion of folks hoping to get away from Mother Nature's wrath! 😉

reply

They're already here. More coming ;)

Hurricanes! Katrina hit here in 2005. My lot had a 32 foot storm surge! I live across the street from the Gulf in Mississippi.

I just cannot imagine having to deal with that wreckage.

Even a small one would likely freak me out. Ever since the movie Earthquake...
