Is accepting praise for a fake watch or bag immoral?

I have a very nice replica of a Louis Vuitton Men's sling bag, and I've taken the compliments.

I have a beautiful replica of the $25,000 Rolex Submariner 'hulk' (green) and I shared it to a watch forum on facebook and a guy who has 3 different Submariners said 'gorgeous!', not telling him that mine was $70.

reply

I wouldn't worry about it.

But I would say "Gosh, thanks! And you wouldn't BELIEVE what I paid for it!".

reply

If the guy who saw it Facebook thinks it's nice just because he thought it was $25,000, then does he really think it's nice? A nice looking Rolex is still a nice looking Rolex. It would only be immoral if you sold it and claimed it was real.

reply

True. Technically even a fake Rolex is a Rolex as it’s a Rolex design, just manufactured by a different company with inferior materials. Think of it as German beer made under licence in the USA.

reply

You can always tell a real rolex by the smoothness of the second hand.

reply

That used to be true, but I’ve seen some now that can even mimic the sweeping motion of the second hand - quite incredible.

reply

Oh I'm sure there are good knock-offs out there. The ones I've seen are pretty cheap.

reply

The best ones are made in China and shipped to Thailand. Remember, the Chinese believe that copyright means the right to copy, lol.

reply

They do indeed. It's also a misconception that China can't make quality items.

An American company can have a Chinese factory build things to whatever "spec" they ask for.

reply

Time to start learning Mandarin. Ni hao ma?

reply

There is truth in that statement.

reply

Some people call it a sling bag, I call it a Kaiser bag.

reply

If nobody can tell the difference, why in the world would anyone want to spend the money on the real one?

reply

Omg too funny!

reply

Immoral? Lol
