Earlier I had a nice hot bowl of hotdog stew that I made the other day. And right now I'm having a big bowl of iceberg lettuce with
"grilled" chicken breast that was marinated in Italian dressing, and tossed with blue cheese dressing. Yum!! ππππ
basically.
i will still have eggs & cheese when i go to my mom's place for lunch.
up until about 5 months ago i will still vegetarian, but i got internet shamed into going full vegan in august, lol.
more so that i got pushed in a direction by a twitter thread.
it was something that i knew i should have done years ago, but i'd let myself coast rather than pushing myself.
and a bunch of folks on twitter said something obvious: if you believe the things you believe, then to be logically consistent, you ought to do this. & i realized they were right!
for holiday meals, i'll always make an exception and have christmas turkey and easter ham with my mom & sisters.
and i'll also occasionally eat deer meat. i know some hunters, and they'll occasionally set me up with a bit of venison. i have no issue eating hunted meat. that's an ethical exemption that i allow myself. most vegans would call that disqualifying, i guess, but i'm not interested in that kind of puritanism.
ut that doesn't come my way very often. in fact, i don't believe i've received any in about 2 years.
and, though i haven't worn leather or anything like that in ages, i guess i would buy it if it was second hand, since in that case money wouldn't be going into the producers.
I had soup today too, with broccoli and pelmeni (dumplings kinda) and I just finished a green leaf salad with apple pieces, dried cranberries, and sunflower seeds with a homemade strawberry garlic vinaigrette.
Sliced hot dogs with carrots, string beans, onion, garlic, peas, (whatever veggies you want) in a thick broth of water, tomato sauce, a can of chilli (without beans for lowcarb or with beans for regular), some beef bullion (sometimes I use ham bullion), Italian seasonings, salt, pepper, and whatever other seasoning you'd like (adobo, garlic powder, onion powder etc). I make mine lowcarb so I don't put any potatoes, pasta, or rice in mine. For regular, potatoes are the way to go.
I will admit that I pictured hot dog water and thought ewww. Lol. Although I know a lot of my friends who had never had pickle soup imagined warm pickle brine, so that's why I asked.
I make mine with chicken broth, shredded pickles and carrots, sometimes I'll put baby potatoes in, pickle brine, and some milk. Garnished with fresh dill.
LOL, I was getting annoyed at that web site. It sounds like it might be interesting but they kept showing the same photo over and over and all I could think was JUST TELL ME WHAT'S IN IT ALREADY!! (Channeling Kowalski.) I didn't expect the broth to the thick so was eager to read the ingredients.
I do really hate those food blogs as well just show me the recipe!!! But, I know a few people who made that one so I felt okay sharing it. My recipe is all guesstimations and partly written in ukranian so it's not so easy to share.
It's the same with YouTube how-to (and other) videos. Quit with the long intros, just TELL ME how to do whatever it is I'm interested in doing and is why I'm here! π
I have to say, it does look like a great recipe, so thanks for that π
I hope you use Hebrew National or Nathanβs. The only two brands Iβm aware of which doesnβt have corn syrup. I attempt to purchase items without corn syrup.
No, I use Hummel Bros as they are zero carb. I don't like Nathan's, they are too firm. If I don't have much money I'll get the stop and shop brand $4 for 3lb package and 2 carbs.
I'm glad Sslssg asked, because I couldn't figure out how you'd made the gravy or sauce for hot dog stew either and haven't heard of such a thing before now.
Oh hell yeah. I'm big on homemade. My chicken and beef soups take several hours to make. I also make a quick Italian Wedding soup. But I use hot Italian sausage instead of meatballs. Soooooooo good!!!!
Homemade soup is my jam! If I could only eat one type of food for the rest of my life, hands down it would be homemade soup.
The only problem is I seem to be unable to make a small amount, and I'm only one person, so invariably it goes bad before I can eat it all π
Sometimes I've lived where I have either neighbours or a landlord who appreciate my overage and I'm more than happy to give it to them. Other times they've had food restrictions or I don't know anyone who I can give it to. Or, like now, I don't have a kitchen, just a hot plate and microwave to work with π
