Fast food restaurants with bulletproof windows at the counters...

...separating the cashier and workers from the customers.

I only see such places in the hood. Is this typical?

reply

It is in the hood, yes
You'd be nuts flipping burgers without some protection

reply

Yeah, but you're at risk in every neighborhood. I can see the rationale but it's still a sad occurrence....

reply

You're at risk in some neighborhoods way more than others, why take chances?

reply

Was common when I used to live in Detroit.

reply

When I see that, it makes me want to keep driving. Not typical around here, but I've seen it in some areas.

I moved into an area years ago and when I went to the nearby grocery store saw armed guards walking around. This was normal for that store, but I'd never lived anywhere like that before.

White Castle used to have a standard window at their drive-ups which was made of shatter proof glass and rotated like a lazy Susan so the customer could never get near the cashier. Trouble is they always jammed and then the employees would have to walk the food out, collect the money, return the change, etc. This defeated the purpose of having them, so they got rid of them.

reply

If you encounter any, that's a holdover from the bad old days of the crack epidemic. When I moved into my current neighborhood in the mid-90s, the local Popeye's had one of these and then got rid of the glass 15 years or so ago.

reply

I’ve only seen that at a few banks.

This is what society has come to. They are currently putting up 12 foot high gates around are playground with locking gates. If we have an active shooter situation, or fire, good luck making out through all the gate locks.

reply

We don’t have that sort of thing in ‘Sunny’ Bournemouth.
