4k cables?

Are all 4k cables the same? I see the price range is from $4 to $30.

No, they are not, just as all tires are not the same. A cable can make a profound difference in your result. And REALLY GOOD HDMI cables in REALLY GOOD home theater systems are priced at 4 figures, not 2. I recommend you find a Magnolia Design Center near you for details.

I neither work for, nor have a fiduciary relationship with, Magnolia Design Centers. The right cables (including power cables) and speaker wires are the MAGIC in a high-end audio or home theater system.

I'm all for getting good quality cables, but only well-heeled videophiles and audiophiles are going to spend a fortune on cables.

I use Audioquest Forest, and even this entry-level cable will seem to most people like too much money.

Expensive cables are great, as long as your system is also already great. It's like expensive swimming pants. It makes a tiny bit difference (maybe 0.1 sec) to an olympic athlete but absolutely nothing if you're just swimming rather leisurely.

If your hi-fi system is not in the 6 figures or more you don't need to buy expensive cables. Spend the budget for better speakers instead.

My guess is as long as you aren’t buying a super cheap cable that falls apart with the lightest use it doesn’t matter. The only time when super expensive cables are important is when you are working in an RF lab where at high frequencies (ie short wavelengths) you have to have an extremely well matched length pair of cables so that they are always in the same phase with each other. Those are very rigid cables and are not what you would use in a consumer context.
