Do you own a 4K TV?

I'm considering one... but 4K doesn't wow me like HD did. I thought DVD was plenty good, but when I first saw a HD TV I was blown away. It was like VHS to DVD! I've got to have an HD TV like right away!

4K was like meh. It's better, but 1080p is good enough for me.

reply

I don't have one. It does look amazing with native 4K content.

reply

4K is old, 8K is the shit.

reply

I've looked at 8K and it's almost surreal. Even 4K is too crisp for me. When it looks more clear than the reality beside it...I just can't.

reply

Yeah, it hurts my eyes.

reply

Is there any 8k content out there?

reply

Probably Tokyo Olympics 2020. It surely will be shot in 8K.

reply

When it looks clearer than reality. I couldn't have said it better.

I wonder what the long-term exposure to your eyes could mean. Seriously our eyes may not be meant to see that clearly, lol.

reply

I've never seen a real 8K TV with real 8K content so I'm quite interested actually. But yeah, price is mostly unrealistic for now. I'll probably skip 4K and go straight to 8K when it becomes affordable.

reply

I remember looking at an LCD television in the 90's that was incredibly expensive. So yeah, just wait til they get realistic.

reply

Not yet

reply

I got one this last year.

It's definitely not the upgrade that HD was from SD TV. I really don't notice much of an improvement, to be honest. The TV wasn't that much more expensive that regular HD though, so I don't regret it.

reply

Yeah the jump of picture quality to HD was the key for me to ditch my entire DVD collection and go 100% digital. When they duke it out between HD DVD and BluRay, I didn't want to pick the loser side so I didn't buy both. Even 720p was clearly better than DVD.

reply

I don't own any TV 🤷‍♀️

reply

How do you watch movies then? Theatre only? Laptop? Tiny phone screen?

reply

I have a good size monitor for my desktop. When I sit right in front of it, I can see everything reeeeeally well! Like having a big screen.

When I watch movies in bed, it's on an iPad mini. Better than a phone, not as good as a laptop. But I watch from about a foot away, so it's decent enough and has good resolution.

reply

Blasphemy!

reply

I'm not religious 😜

reply

not interested at this point.

reply

I hate to be that girl but I am so sick of tv.. I read a book until midnight last night and it was the most satisfying experience of my life.. No Jokes allowed.

reply

what book did you read?

reply

Nothing you'd be interested in. But oh my god it was an amazing romance. I have started this author a week ago and i have read every book she's written mesmerizing.

reply

My wife likes Lynda La Plante

reply

I don't know who that is but i'm glad I dont have to pretend who I like anymore.

reply

reply

If you love me you'll read C is for corpse. I think you'll like it. and its only 250 pages...

reply

Even though you hate me because we differ politically, I respect that you're a reader (and an AIC fan!). Reading is a blessing.

reply

I do. 43 inch. Got it during the black friday sales. I use it as my computer monitor and bedroom tv. The resolution upgrade was really noticeable for my laptop. It gave me a lot more room. Better clarity.

You notice the difference playing blu-rays as well. They up the resolution even if the disc is just HD. TV? No difference as TV in australia is Standard definition and low quality HD.

reply

Yeah that's what I had in mind if I'd get one, hook it up to my PC. My 1080p tv is already connected tho' and it was seamless because my computer monitor is also 1920x1080 so they work together pretty well.

If I were to obtain a 4K TV I'll have to upgrade my monitor too because running dual screen setup with different resolutions is annoying.
