It's great, especially the tail! Happy New Year!

😎

There’s a tail ?

reply

It's pretty much the most prized part. Restaurants often offer the tail only, in addition to offering the whole thing.

reply

Want a real treat? Wrap the tail in bacon!

Yeah, that could work.

Lobster is not Kosher

reply

I’m allergic to shell fish

reply

There was a contestant on the most recent MasterChef who said he was deathly allergic to shellfish. Being a chef and being allergic to a food is kind of weird.

reply

P.S. I like lobster but it is a bit overrated IMO. You really need the butter sauce to make it taste good.

reply

I agree. I prefer shrimp, crabs or crawfish over them any day.

reply

Scallops and fried oysters!

reply

chuck butter sauce on an old boot, that shit will taste nice.

reply

It's really good breaded and baked!

reply

There was once a contestant on Chopped who was allergic to shellfish. When her turn came up it turned out she overdid the salt. They asked if she had tasted it and she responded that she couldn't because of her allergies. She only got through the round because another messed up worse.

reply

We also see this type of thing with contestants who are vegetarians. They won't test taste their dish.

reply

I think I saw that show, or there was more than one such contestant. I used to watch Chopped a lot.

It is hard to imagine being a chef who for one reason or another can't or won't taste some of their food.

reply

scallops

reply

You're not missing anything in my opinion. Crab is better than lobster and prawns are better than crab.

reply

Agreed. It tastes kind of like shrimp but much blander, which is why they give you butter. Thd libdyer doesnt have enough flavor to be worth eating on its own.

Definitely not worth the money, not even as lobster rolls.

reply

I'll take scallops and crab any day over lobster. A lot of people rave over lobster, and it's so expensive, but the first time I tried it it was a big disappointment. It's okay.

reply

Lobster is delicious! But there's not a lot of meat....

reply

I eat it once in a blue moon, although it’s a lot of hard work with all the hammers and pliers and whatnot.

reply

Yes, I always get it on my birthday, because society tells me I have to. It's weird. It's so hard to eat! I really get nothing out of the experience.

reply

I always feel like I’ve been in a fight, lol.

reply

I've literally had to get bandaids! Those shells are sharp. This is what the rich elite want to eat? lmao

reply

I've cut myself as well.

Lobster was actually a poor persons food back in the day. They served it in U.S. prisons so much a law was passed that limited the days they could serve it. Funny how things change!

reply

lol i'm guessing the prisoners wern't getting it fresh thrown straight into the kettle. i bought some frozen lobster tails once that were so gross, made me so sick, i literally couldn't touch the stuff for years after. i still have a shudder of revulsion just thinking about it while I write this.

reply

Good lobster is hard to come by. You would have to pay a premium.

reply

Some of the worst lobster I ever had was from Red Lobster. You'll never convince me they're serving all that shit fresh from that aquarium they keep out front.

reply

Once upon a time, lobster was considered fit only for the riff raff. There's a surprising amount of food to have made that journey.

reply

Is that so? That doesn't surprise me. I love the history of the chicken wing. So undesirable they used to throw it away. Now by the pound it's gold.

reply

It's crazy, right? From what I understand, lobster was incredibly plentiful and easy to catch, plus it looked like a bug so the "elite" wouldn't buy it.

reply

Yes, crabs and lobsters used to be mad plentiful till the 20th century figured out how to mass harvest them. Now we have to restrict ourselves less they be exterminated. Also, they were crazy huge. Like literally three times bigger than today.

reply

Global population should probably slow down a bit.

reply

Oysters also made that trip.

reply

To me, depending on the level of hunger, anything too slow to get away is food. However, seafood is a particular favorite and it's amazing to me how attitudes about food have changed. My grandpa told that most people stop being picky by the second day.lol

reply

Massive seafood fan, I eat it at least 4 nights a week. Lobster is totally overrated. I have no idea how it became such a prestige dish. It mostly tastes like the butter and salt you put on it. There's a dozen types of crab that are just as hard to crack into that taste infinitely better.

reply

The lobster has been a delightful addition to movies and tv shows. We got the wonderful Darryl Hanna scene from Splashed. The hilarious maine lobster scene from Seinfeld. And the charming lobster references with Phoebe from friends. Feel free to list more, folks.

reply

Not to mention its contribution to communications technology.

reply

And now I need this. To the art studio!

reply

Not familiar with any of those but they can't be more hilarious than the one in the Bean movie, I forget which one.

reply

Mr. Bean's Holiday, surely. lmao we're so lucky to have such a great comedian still with us.
