What Is Your Favourite Unknown Horror Movie?

This discussion is about listing our favourite lesser known horror films, If like me you are a fan of the genre, you will likely have sat through a large amount of crappy or cheesy horror flicks, but every once in a while you can come across a film that makes you ask yourself, Why Have I Never Seen This Film Until Now?

So please feel free to mention any film that you feel to be a real find, you can also give a brief description of it (even if its just an IMDb Synopsis) but please try and avoid mentioning spoilers on the film as that will make people less inclined to watch it.

Noroi (2005, Japan). It's one of my favorites but I almost never encounter anyone who's seen it.

👍💯 Very legitimately creepy flick 💯👍

Seven in Heaven (2018)

Teenagers Jude and June emerge into a dangerous alternate reality after exiting a closet where they have been playing `Seven in Heaven'. Jude finds that in this new reality he has been accused of murder, while June is attacked while walking home.

probably not as obscure as most of the recommendations made, but off the top of my head:

angst (1983) - austrian serial killer film. i think this is one of the more unsettling films i've seen. henry - portrait of... is an obvious comparison, but it's different in that there's really no plot, and you really watch the violence through the killer's cold, detached gaze.

the sadist (1963) - one of my favourite 60s b-movies. arch hall jr chews scenery a bit too much to be taken seriously, but otherwise this is a tight, tough film. the tormented teachers are sympathetic, the bad guy's girlfriend is wonderfully trashy.

the eyes of my mother (2016) - very well made film, almost poetically nice to look at in places if i can say that without sounding daft, but also filled with nightmarish images. long on atmosphere, almost no story, but it's still one of my favourite recent horror films.

👍💯 Big time agree on Let's Scare Jessica and Long Weekend. Very cool to see Dust Devil here. Richard Stanley is quite an underappreciated and interesting filmmaker. 💯👍

I liked House of 9. It's like a mishmash of other movies but it works.

I really liked Wilderness too. Watched it because I am a Sean Pertwee fan and ended up liking the movie and it was the first movie I saw Toby Kebbell in.

Waxwork (1988) - not horror so much, but it was a fun flick

reply

Thanks everyone for all these great recommendations, There are quite a few that I have seen and enjoyed, but are probably more listed that I haven't yet had the pleasure of watching. Lets try and keep this thread active since it is always nice getting recommended a good film to watch.
