Favorite version of A Christmas Carol

There have been so many adaptations of this over the years of varying degrees of quality; anyone have a favorite? Mine is probably the 1984 made for TV film starring George C. Scott.

Honorable mention goes to 1970's musical adaptation Scrooge starring Albert Finney if for no other reason than the super-catchy "Thank You Very Much" number.

This one, by far. In fact, if I remember correctly, this was my indoctrination into the story itself. So anytime after this whenever I saw another version of the story, I'd be like hey, I know this story!! And I also would get mad if a Christmas season went by and it wasn't shown.

Haha I remember it from HBO when I was a kid and loved it! Actually almost mentioned it as an honorable mention so glad to see it getting some love!

And it was at a time when families watched TV together. I have very fond memories of watching this with my mom and dad every Christmas.

Nixon as Jacob Marley. 😊

the 1951 version with Alistair Sim.

Scrooge (1970) I saw this movie the first time when I was a little kid. I loved the songs but the ending when Scrooge goes to Hell scared the crap out of me. I watch this movie every Christmas season.

1951 version is my favourite

non version...I am partial to Scrooged (1988)

Alastair Sim is the best and is starting to rival It’s a Wonderful Life as compulsory Xmas eve viewing for me. The George C. Scott version is also very good.

I'm not big on musicals but I really liked Scrooge (1970).

Available in full on YouTube and watching it now...it really is great!

Have you see "The Man Who Invented Christmas"? It's about Dickens writing the book. Not a bad film.

reply

Haven't seen that but I feel like I stumbled upon it not long ago. I'll have to check it out.

Mr Magoo’s A Christmas Carol (1962)

I watch it a couple of times a year as Christmas gets closer.
