Ever wish that people could just like things instead of being anxiety inducers?

I mean I know the old saying "everybody likes different things" but sometimes its just really overbearing. Like how can you find football boring? not be interested in movies? not be a huge fan of johnny cash or david bowie? not find Will Ferrell funny?

I find football boring. Not a huge fan of johnny cash nor david bowie either. Will Ferrell is sometimes funny, tho'.

I get it, I don't like it when people just constantly crap all over something but I also get just as tired of people loving crap that sucks. Like modern comedians, the big names, they aren't funny. Now the men and women on small stages will have you bent over holding your stomach but the comedians that get Netflix specials aren't funny (except Bill Burr, he's kinda funny). But people go on and on about how funny these comedians are and I find them dull. Their jokes are retreads, they pretend to be edgy but are really just being politically correct. Dull. Comedians need truth and most of them shy away from it because they are afraid of controversy.

As for football, I played football in HS, loved it. Watching the NFL is boring, well not always, but it's all too perfect, too polished. The more teams that switched to astroturf, the more I lost interest. I watch maybe one full game a year and several halfs. If the game isn't close, I turn it off.

McQualude- You are wrong. Bill Burr is freaking hilarious!!!

When it comes to sports, I just can't watch any on TV. Too many, many, many commercials!. But if others want to spend three hours watching a game that can be played in an hour, I don't care.

Speaking of comedians, ever hear of John Caparulo? He makes me laugh until I cry. He's done several bits about people lecturing him for his unhealthy eating habits.
"If you want to eat healthy and live that long, do it. But shut up about it! I like (pause) BUTTER! And ranch."

The problem is when people want you to like what they like and they keep lecturing you about it.

I used to date a guy who thought, "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad World" was the funniest movie ever. I told him that I saw it and didn't think it was funny. But every chance he got, he'd quote lines from it and laugh. I kept telling him that I never thought it was funny. It's annoying to listen to endless quotes from a movie you didn't like.

reply

I didn't think that movie was all that funny either but I have a specific sense of humor.

reply

I agree, what stand ups are you referring to that people love?

reply

I find the music and movies thing weird. Like, they don't like any music or movies? I question people like that.

reply

Never trust anyone that doesn't like alcohol, lol.

reply

Alcohol is a curse on humanity.

I think it's fine that people like different things..I mean..football bores me silly and Will Farrell has never been funny to me (for instance)
But I think that what gets me is that there isn't one actor or one film or anything that someone doesn't have to pick apart, dissect and tear to pieces no matter how well liked by others. Maybe even more if liked by others....
I'll share my opinion of things like football or Will Farrell if it comes up but I'm not ranting on it and making it my objective in life to prove me right to those that disagree.

I get more tired of the negativity. Everyone has the right to their opinion but if you don't like something or someone then why spend endless amounts of valuable time ranting on it and daring anyone to prove you wrong for liking it or not liking it? Why not concentrate more on the things that you do like? Life is too short.

These days it seems like people aren't very respectful toward different points of view...different opinions. It's as if so many are so dedicated to their own "rightness" of their opinions or perspective that they can't bear to even hear a dissenting opinion and not go for the throat.

It’s anxiety inducing cause it makes you think a lot about why they don’t like and makes you think of them when your watching it/listening to it.

reply

Why is it so difficult to understand that people like different things?

I am sure you have things you don't like.

reply

It’s more of a case that CERTAIN things that people don’t like baffle me.

reply

When it comes to music I don’t think there’s any genre I can say i completely dislike. As well as with movies there’s no genre that I totally dislike. It’s not that its difficult to understand that people like different things, it’s just surprising when people don’t like certain things.

reply

If someone loves something, it shouldn't change because someone else shits all over it. I'm never in the mainstream, no one knows the people I like. It would be nice, because I would like to have a conversation.

When I see someone who criticizes things I also don't like, then I might check out the things they like.
