Older movies with comedy that is really sexist, transphobic, homophobic, etc?

I'm making a list of movies with jokes that you just wouldn't see done today. I want to illustrate how PC times are now. I've started the following list:

1) Crocodile Dundee - Grabs transgender woman in bar by the balls upon realising it is a man. Tells everyone to watch out for her.

2) Jungle 2 Jungle (disney movie!) - tells jungle son that you raise your arm and a taxi pulls up. The boy says 'it's magic' to which he replies 'it will be magic if he speaks english' (indian taxi driver.)

3) Sleepless In Seattle - Rosie O'Donnell says of the mystery man (Tom Hanks) "He could be a crackhead, a transvestite, a flasher, a junkie, a chainsaw murderer" - - Really transphobic by today's standards.

The list is just for fun.

Please feel free to add to the list with movies that you know just wouldn't be allowed to say those jokes today.

In Weird Science one of the mains calls a guy a faggot.

reply

Good example. And in Bill and Ted's excellent adventure as well.

reply

Yeah. Back in the 80s we kids used to throw words like "gay"' and "fag" around. That line was realistic. We'd use it the same way you'd say something was stupid or lame.

reply

I'm sure everywhere was different but we used fag almost to mean "metro," because we didn't know that word yet.
Nice clothes were fag clothes, i.e. going out with Kim tonight, gotta iron my fag clothes. New shoes or dress shoes were fag shoes. You look like a fag -- you look well put together. If you wore a necklace, like I did, you dressed like a fag. Queer = homosexual. If we talked about gay people, we usually called them queers, not fags. The slur for homosexual was faggot. If someone called you a fag it was nothing but if someone called you a faggot it was provocation. Probably wasn't like that everywhere but it was where I grew up. Excuse me now, I have to change out of my fag clothes.

SLAP SHOT (1977):

- "Those guys are retards!"
- "I don't care who's a fag no more."
- "You know, your son looks like a fag to me."
- "He... he said if I was a dyke, that made him a queer."

Airplane is riddled with jokes about homosexuality and "boy love".

The plane's captain has a young boy come up to the cockpit for a visit he asks him "do you like gladiator movies?" Hilarious.

reply

Yeah I never got why that was accepted.

Thought of another, Sleepaway Camp, the whole movie really. I think most gen y/z would need therapy after watching it but in the beginning a pedophile makes lewd comments about the young female campers and no one blinks an eye. There is rape, children are murdered, peeping toms, transgenderism.
