Worst Decade for Film?

What does everyone think is the decade that has produced the worst films?

reply

Eighties

I find films from the 70's to have a bleakness to them as well as being boring as hell. Obviously a couple of exceptions but generally speaking even when the subject matter implies it should be exciting the film still tends to be a bore.

The decade we're at the end of now 2010-2019 is also pretty boring. Franchises, reboots etc when when they're not those things they are played really safe and are dull.

reply

This seems pretty bang on. I´d argue that 2014 was pretty decent but the rest meh.

reply

Which ones from the 70s do you find to be the exceptions?

reply

Mostly the ones made later in the decade, Superman, Star Wars. Dirty Harry was good and I know it's '71.

Generally I just don't go for films made in that decade very much.

80S PRODUCED AN EQUAL MIX OF HIGH QUALITY AND GROUND LEVEL SHIT.THE 90S SHIFTED FURTHER INTO TURDVILLE...90S,EASILY.

reply

1990´s have three of the greatest movies ever made in one single year.

reply

AND THE HIGHEST PERCENTAGE OF COMMERCIAL,FORGETTABLE CRAP.

reply

agreed

reply

which 3?

reply

1994- pulp fiction, forrest gump, shawshank redemption.

reply

1980s

reply

Thems fightin words!! I'll set the Toxic Avenger after you!

reply

I think I would enjoy that.

reply

My favorite super hero movie!!!

reply

Horrible decade indeed. Lack of unique ideas

reply

80s were the absolute worst. This decade is probably 2nd worst.

reply

Yeap, let's take 1982, for example. Examples of horrible movies that year:

ET The ExtraTerrestrial
The Thing
First Blood
Blade Runner
Poltergeist
Conan
Dark Crystal
48 Hrs
Tron

I agree, that was a horrible year. This one was much better, with Avengers, and Captain Marvel, and Lion King bad-animation-clone, and Aladdin racist-clone, and Frozen II bad-songs-sequel...

The 1880s weren’t up to much.

reply

the 1780's were much worse...

reply

Good point.

reply

The late 19th century films are way more interesting than modern films imo.

reply

The choice was very limited though.

reply

That is true.

reply

This decade - 2010-2019. Not many original movies. Were there any new movies so good that they began a new popular franchise?

TV is great though.

reply

I'm going to have to agree..There has been a few great ones but originality in general has really sank this last decade.
The last year has been dismal.

reply

I was going to nominate the 1980s before I read your comment and then changed my mind. You're right. The 1980s was an abysmal decade, but at least there were a few gems. There hasn't been one decent, original movie produced this decade except maybe Buried. The "best" movies have all been hackneyed garbage or reboots. The worst movies are so bad as to be forgettable.
