Pain Meds

So a short time ago I mentioned that I deal with some pain and that my medication is fairly important to me. A couple of my friends here (I know - it's amazing, right?) expressed their concern and I appreciate that so thought I would explain:

3 concussions - 2 required stiches and 1 put me in the hospital for 2 days.
3 broken noses - that I set myself (actually I did a good job)
1 ruptured ear drum - I can still hear with it, sort of
5 broken teeth - 2 repaired, 2 pulled, 1 still broken
2 neck injuries - not sure what I did but there's no curve in it now
2 torn rotator cuffs - still waiting for surgery
3 chipped elbows - see above
5 broken wrists - see above
2 boxer's fractures - the doc was disgusted, told me "learn how to throw a punch"
6 broken knuckles - see above
Cracked sternum
2 cracked ribs, 4 severely bruised - yeah everyone says the last 3 don't count but I'm 55 now. I feel it!
Degenerative disc disease
Osteoarthritis
Sciatica
1 ruptured disc BETWEEN
2 herniated discs - all at the base my spine with maybe 150lbs sitting on them (it sucks)
2 bone spurs - somewhere near my spinal cord. Every once in a while they make themselves KNOWN.
Partial tears in both knees - high school football
1 broken ankle - 3 pins, 6 screws
3 broken toes - a marble and wrought iron coffee table that didn't budge a fucking millimeter!

Seems like I missed something...

Yeah I've been kinda rough on my body and I do like to be pain free. If it's any consolation, I detox at least once a month just to prove that I can.
Three days of pure misery.

So... comments?

reply

I'm sorry for your pain. Really. It's no fun at all, and it's exhausting having to deal with it. But I have to ask, what have you been doing that you've suffered all these injuries?

reply

Well, high school football was responsible for some.
Working construction for many years contributed.
Ten years on a Harley flying colors did alot of it.
I guess the rest was just basic "ten feet tall and bulletproof" testosterone fueled stupidity.

reply

Wow. We're lucky you're here!

reply

I really do appreciate that ๐Ÿ˜

reply

I was going to ask if you were a Hollywood stuntman.

reply

Definitely nothing even that glamorous! lol
Nope. Just "living life to the fullest". Sorta wish I hadn't but to be honest, I wouldn't trade it. You know the old movie "Total Recall" where people sold their memories so other people could live in them? I'd make mint!
Ah, too bad it ain't happening... ;-)

reply

And you're absolutely right. The one thing no one thinks about is the Exhaustion involved in dealing with pain.

reply

You got the job.

reply

Thanks ;-)

reply

As a stunt man, Laura?

reply

Inside joke.

reply

I thought my old hockey injuries were bad. Were you a boxer?

reply

Um... not a boxer. For a long time I thought that if the evening didn't include a fight then I couldn't possibly be having any fun.
Also if no one else on the jobsite would do something ol' Cruz was up to the task.
I regret almost all of it.

reply

That's an amazing list of injuries...I'm beginning to suspect you might be Johnny Knoxville!

In all seriousness, the monthly detox is a good call
The Opioids are a great danger and have hooked many good people
Use with caution Cruz

Have you ever tried Yoga, stretching or massages?
Might do you some good as a lot of your joints and limbs are banged up

Best wishes, sounds hellish

reply

I've tried a bit of everything at one time or another. Reinjuring my back is... intimidating. It normally puts me out of commission for 2 - 3 days. The pain makes me cold sweat and any movement makes it worse. There are some things even pain killers can't help.

Yeah. It scares me.

reply

Pay back is a bitch, ainโ€™t it?

reply

Sure. Whatever.

reply

Sounds like you did it to yourself. You deserve what's coming.

reply

Eat shit

reply

Big tough guy, can't even take the pain he caused himself, has to take meds.

reply

Coward sits behind a keyboard and runs that cocksucker.

reply

No one deserves the pain youโ€™re going through...except serial killers, pedophiles, etc. They need to be drawn and quartered!

If you were in the past the way you are now, chip on the shoulder, maybe thatโ€™s why fisticuffs were involved. Just sayinโ€™...
Have you ever gone back and read your replies when someone challenges you? You do get testy and the ad hominem attacks are fast and furious. If someone replies with something you donโ€™t like the nasty name calling begins. Everyone on this board has to bow to you or your โ€œtestosteroneโ€ flares. You got pissed when I called you out regarding your statement that rednecks are good dumb hicks. Did I miss something there?

โ€œI guess the rest was just basic "ten feet tall and bulletproof" testosterone fueled stupidity.โ€
Yes, you have done foolish things. Havenโ€™t we all? ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธMy brain is pickled from too many filled to the brim red Solo cups. IBS from being wild and wicked. I quit smoking in 1984, but it has come back to bite me on the arse. I blame myself as you do...no excuses, but lordy me you donโ€™t deserve the long list of ailments you posted! No one should ever say you โ€œdeserve whatโ€™s comingโ€.

Finally I extend my hand to yours. ๐Ÿค And hoping the pain lessens for you.

reply

For a long time I thought I had nothing to live for... cue severe self destructive behavior. Things have changed alot but it's awfully hard to come full circle even after almost 30 years. When I feel I've been slighted without cause I WILL fight.
Enough of that. I honestly don't want to fight, I'll respect anyone who respects me.

Actually you did misread what I wrote - I was saying that 99% of people who talk about rednecks don't know any, don't know what they're talking about. You came straight out and after me, didn't ask for clarification. Cruz put up his dukes and waded in.
I hope we can be friends now, most everyone I respect here really seems to like you.

I read the Solo cup conversations. Funny stuff! I think if we haven't suffered at least a little, we probably haven't had much fun!
I... had too much. I honestly didn't start this thread for sympathy or to complain. As I said, a few of the MC gang expressed concern. It touched me and I wanted to explain why my medication is important to me.

I formally accept your hand in friendship and hope you will do same. I'd much rather laugh than fight!
Damn that feels good.

reply

Just to let you know why some folks took offense over you listing your ailments. We have had and currently have cyber pals who were/are quite ill, but you would never know it. Theyโ€™ve kept it quiet, only letting a few people know via PM. One of the most dearest posters we had is no longer on this earthly plane, he was our beloved Dewey ๐Ÿ˜‡. He left us over a year ago to โ€œSit High on That Mountainโ€. He suffered every day, every night, but only a few were aware. He was such a trooper who was so upbeat. There were times this board kept him going...allowed him to forget the pain he was in...if only for a short time.

His back and forth posts with Stratego were priceless. Her sexy pet name for him made you think she was purring when she wrote it...Deputy Dewey Boy. Some of us feel we lost the soul of MovieChat when he left. ๐Ÿ˜ข

When you have time and want to meet a genuine heart go back and read some of the skits. So very funny.

reply

...I'm so very sorry to hear that your friend is gone. It's true that we live on in the memories of those who love us.
Maybe it appears that I curry favor or recognition...
Only a handful know much about my past. The people who have read all my posts on this unique website probably know more than my own family.
Stratego was one of the two that I went full nutjob on and I'm proud to say that she's apparently forgiven me. We've shared a few posts recently and it seems to have been forgotten.
Nice ;)
Perhaps your friend Dewey instilled this place with a bit of his soul because it has something extra, something that is hard to define but undoubtedly present.

I have a million stories of my life that run the full gamut of emotions. The kind that you whisper to your SO in the dark of night... and write for your friends on MovieChat.

reply

Thank you! Dewey ๐Ÿ˜‡ did leave a bit of himself behind for which we are grateful. We are a unique bunch. Instead of โ€œOne Flew Over the Cuckooโ€™s Nestโ€, we are many! ๐Ÿฅณ The inmates are running the asylum! ๐Ÿคช

reply

With one or two minor exceptions, and maybe that will change too, I feel blessed to have been accepted here.
It is wonderfully nuts!

reply

I'm actually not surprised by this comment considering you've exhibited yourself as a complete piece of shit in the past. You lack compassion and empathy. I pity you.

reply

Thanks for having my back.

reply

I ache just reading this! A marble coffee table crushing your toes while not the most serious of your injuries sounds especially painful!

reply

My parents brought it with them from Belgium and gave it to me when I left home. I learned two things:
1. Why they gave it to me.
2. Turn on the damn lights while getting a drink of water in the middle of the night!
Lol!

reply

How are you not falling apart???๐Ÿ˜

I've got chronic headache. My back is starting to bother me as well. No medication. I'm just glad I haven't got it as bad as you!

reply

Listen, I'm glad you don't feel like this ๐Ÿ˜ƒ
Chronic headache sounds awful tho. Any idea why?

reply

Stress. Not enough sleep. Wrong posture. Almost 20 years already. I also have a burning pain in my shoulder. ๐Ÿ˜• Got any advice, doctor???

reply

Well... sex is good for stress and getting some satisfying sleep. Seriously. Posture I can't advise you on. Mine is awful.
Listen, the pain in your shoulder sounds like mine. Rotator cuff surgery works wonders. I'm getting mine asap.

reply

Physical therapy for the shoulder. Works wonders. It can help back and posture, too.

Yoga and meditation(even 10 minutes a day) are great for back pain, posture, stress and sleep.
