We got nailed. The morning drive was a mess. There was pileup just east of us. One person died.

That doesn't even look like an extreme amount of snow. What are the odds that it was caused by someone driving without chains, bad tires, or just plain irresponsibly?

I think it was the Lake Effect snow that makes it treacherous out that way. You are right - snow tires should be mandatory in winter here. All seasonal tires are crap for days like today.

Driving too fast for conditions and following too closely. Happens far too often.

Hehe, congrats. Only way I would see snow where I lived was to go up to Lake Tahoe, and it's dangerous to drive on those mountain roads in the winter, particularly when the weather can change at the drop of a hat up there.
