Thanksgiving foods aftermath....

I love Thanksgiving food; it is so good but, when I ate dinner, I literally had like two bites of sweet potatoes and two bites of green bean casserole and I felt stuffed. My stomach felt super bloated and my pants were cutting off my circulation; it was horrible. It wasn't the amount of food I ate, it was the fact that Thanksgiving foods are so dense and filling. Did anyone else go through a similar situation of not eating a lot and instantly feeling full after a few bites of food? Just curious...

reply

Yes, the trick I find is to take a small dollop of everything (except green beans, get those things off my table!)

Later on you can go in for round 2 if so inclined

The Italians in New York are amazing
They have a big lasagna or baked Ziti first AND THEN out comes the bird and the sides!
That sort of thing could kill you

We're all going to gain 5 pounds this month for sure😬

"They have a big lasagna or baked Ziti first AND THEN out comes the bird and the sides!"

For a long time, I thought everyone did this. It really is a little crazy.

reply

It's too much Amigo
I dated a nice Italian girl across the river for a long time
Her family holidays were insane, everything was delicious and there was far too much

Nearly the death of me!

reply

My in-laws used to do the pasta thing along with the turkey. Italians associate food with celebration more than anyone.

I find that all the snacks (chips & dip, etc.) people put out, kill people's appetites. I never put anything out. Some people whine about it but thank me, after the meal.

reply

Agree - Thanksgiving is the only time I don't serve any appetizers or snacks.

It has something to do with the initial size of your stomach, too. It seems like starving yourself all day would be the thing to do, and while it does make you hungrier, it effectively shrinks your stomach making it much easier and faster to fill.

reply

That's true. I didn't eat that much before dinner and I was starving when dinner was served. I only had a smoothie that day and a few crackers; I was trying to be smart so i could enjoy my dinner. Unfortunately, it backfired on me and I got stuffed super fast.

reply

I usually make the same mistake ;/
I saw a video some time ago that showed food eating contestants expanding their stomachs the night before by consuming pounds of easily digested foods like grapes.
Sounds gross to me ;p

reply

I'm almost thinking though that I probably shouldn't have had that smoothie; it's was pretty filling with blueberries, bananas, protein powder and almond milk. That may have spoiled my appetite....

reply

Does sound heavy...

Thanksgiving food is really good, very true. I don't eat much of it, though. Seeing so much food - well, too much food - kills my appetite for some reason. I tend to nibble and that's enough. I hate that stuffed feeling. Ugh.

reply

Unless I have Thanksgiving dinner at my house, I eat very little, and I mean just a bit. I make the tiny dollops last so not to insult the host/ess. Why? IBS raises its ugly head! When we use our casino comps for expensive meals...I’m on my way home.

MissGlenE, I rcvd my shot size red Solo cups attached to Mardi Gras beads. I’m ready for Mardi Gras now...I am woman, see me roar!! Then this occurs! 🥴

reply

I hear you. The older I get, the more my digestive system rebels. So yes, I choose carefully.

reply

There is the obligation to just keep eating, its kind of gross. I agree with the take a tiny spoonful of everything. You taste everything but don't feel overstuffed.

I try small bites of everything - works best even dessert.

reply

Yep, especially small bites of dessert. All that heavy, usually sweet stuff after a big meal - oof. My son-on-law's family has the good metabolism. They can eat a lot, but not a one of them is even slightly overweight.

reply

There is absolutely no reason to be eating vegetables at Thanksgiving, unless covered in cheese. Its Thanksgiving, vegetables are for the rest of the year.

reply

Absolutely!

you just have turkey?
