Happy Thanksgiving!

Reminder to Be Grateful for your blessings.

You have taken the land which is rightfully ours. Years from now, my people will be forced to live in mobile homes on reservations; your people will wear cardigans and drink highballs. We will sell our bracelets by the roadsides; you will play golf and enjoy hot hors d'oeuvres. My people will have pain and degradation; your people will have stick-shifts. The gods of my tribe have spoken. They have said, "Do not trust the Pilgrims, especially Sarah Miller.”
And for all these reasons, I have decided to scalp you and burn your village to the ground.

It's 2020. The world is yours only if you want it.
And if you think I'm living better than you, you're only fooling yourself.

reply

Yea cuz I can just go up to the podium and claim it.

I've known at least three young men (young when I met them) who were born and grew up on a reservation, became successful in great wide world (what better way to to get your so-called revenge), and returned to help others do the same.
What's stopping you?

Just so there's no misunderstanding, I came from a long line of literally dirt poor hunters and farmers, became successful in insurance, realized that money isn't everything, and am VERY happy in my double wide in the mountains on less than a tenth of what I once made.

You live in the one place in the world that doesn't give a damn about your heritage. So go make your life whatever you want it to be, brother.

reply

World, if I want to be ruler you cant just knock of all the hierarchy just cause you want the throne. There are consequences and those consequences are stopping you like death, jail, lost of possessions, and shame. It’s much easier to give it up and live up in the mountains than fight through it and become king.

reply

I don't have a clue what you're talking about.
You seem unhappy with your place in life. Assuming that's true, I'm telling you that you can change it.
I decided that chasing the almighty dollar was the opposite of happiness. What I "gave up" was someone else's Idea of happiness and found my own.
You should find yours.

Those were rough times. Some did and worse than village burning and scalping. The Lakota and Cheyenne shoved an arrow up Custer’s penis like a hot dog at a Winnie roast. After their battles the elderly, women and children would torture and mutilate the wounded left on the ground after the fighters had moved through.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

The sad reality about the United States of America is that in a matter of a few hundreds years it managed to rewrite its own history into a mythological fantasy. The concepts of liberty, freedom and free enterprise in the “land of the free, home of the brave” are a mere spin. The US was founded and became prosperous based on two original sins: firstly, on the mass murder of Native Americans and theft of their land by European colonialists; secondly, on slavery. This grim reality is far removed from the fairy tale version of a nation that views itself in its collective consciousness as a virtuous universal agent for good and progress. The most recent version of this mythology was expressed by Ronald Reagan when he said that “America is a shining city upon a hill whose beacon light guides freedom-loving people everywhere.”

In rewriting its own history about Thanksgiving, white America tells a Disney-like fairytale about the English pilgrims and their struggle to survive in a new and harsh environment. The pilgrims found help from the friendly and extremely generous Native-American tribe, the Wampanoag Indians, in 1621. Unfortunately for Native Americans, the European settlers’ gratitude was short-lived. By 1637, Massachusetts governor John Winthrop ordered the massacre of thousands of Pequot Indian men, women and children. This event marked the start of a Native-American genocide that would take slightly more than 200 years to complete, and of course to achieve its ultimate goal, which was to take the land from Native Americans and systematically plunder their resources. The genocide begun in 1637 marks the beginning of the conquest of the entire continent until most Native Americans were exterminated, a few were assimilated into white society, and the rest were put in reservations to dwindle and die.

And let's be thankful that we live in a country where we can disagree. Right and Left should hope that hope that never changes.

And on a much lighter note, I'm so thankful I had my family dinner on Sunday and all I have to do today is watch football and eat leftovers.

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!
