1967 FAO Schwarz Christmas catalog. Xanadu for this 8-year-old. There are too many things to mention, so I'll just mention one, page 138, a kid's military uniform. I thought that would be so cool, but I bet it probably wasn't as great as pictured. Who knows if it would have fit.

I had a similar toy M16 like the one shown but it only made one sound.

I had a Hot Wheels when I was a kid. Loved it.

I had a bunch of those also and I wish I had kept them. By the way, congratulations on 5000 post. :)

OMG! I hadn't noticed. Do I get a prize? LOL!

I remember the Mongoose vs. Cobra race sets.

reply

I grew up in the 80’s and the Mongoose dirt bike was the one to have.

The Evil Knievel motorcycles were cool. Dogs used to go nuts about them.

Did anyone have the Stretch Armstrong? I had one in the 80’s and I remember when it got old his arm burst open and some syrup looking stuff came out and it never came out of the shag carpet.

Polly Pockets. I loved them when I was little. Before 2000, they were small and made of hard plastic, and they lived in these little clamshell-like pods you could open up, and there was an entire house or world inside. I had a thing for highly detailed toys. Some of the most lovely, elaborate toys I ever owned were these imitation "Polly Pocket" castles (though not made from that particular company), but made for fairy-tale figurines, like mermaids, Cinderella (Disney), and a generic Beauty and the Beast set. I had so many little figurines that I had to get one of those plastic boxes normally designed to sort things like beads.

Nowadays, Polly Pocket is 3 inches tall, has doll hair, and rubber clothes. While I would have loved her as a kid, the originals were what I remember.

There is a set of 7 on eBay for 450.00!!

You're joking! :O

reply

Nope.. I’m serious and it was the first one that popped up.

Isn't technically every toy from the past? How would we have them in the present otherwise?

reply

Isn’t there a moment that they come off the assembly line that is only in the present?

I mailed that question last year to Santa's workshop, and all I got back six months later was a wrapped gift straight from the factory with a card that read: "Does this answer your question?"

Those damn elves are always such smart asses. The only one I ever liked was the one who wanted to be a dentist.

My favorite toys: early 1970's action figures and playsets The Ready Gang by Marx toys, old West bandits, like Sergio Leone movies
