Hollyweird has gone right off the deep end. That's just batshit crazy.

reply

Maybe stepped back from the deep end. This was 25 years ago. Even though this seems like satire, anything is possible in an industry that saw fit to cast Mickey Rooney as a Japanese landlord. Gave me a laugh though.. "No one is going to know the difference" lol

reply

Twenty five years or twenty five minutes, Julia Roberts will NEVER be a black woman. That's nucking futz!

reply

It's a bit Tropic Thunder, isn't it? :)

reply

You're right. That was... Robert Downey Jr, wasn't it? "What do you mean 'You people'?"
But y'know, they don't get much whiter than Julia. Not to be racistly stereotypical but... tall, lean, long straight nose, really thin lips... I've seen a couple dark skin girls that look like that but... Harriet Tubman just... didn't.

reply

I'd say the only reason Downey Jr kind of got away with it is because it was satire and from memory his character was a white guy in black face. Sort of a loop hole, although I don't think you could get away with it now. And doing it for a historical figure? There gonna be pitchforks and torches comin' ya way!

reply

Haha yeah, I actually meant it's as ridiculous as RDJ's character, and you're right in wouldn't fly today. Then again, I wouldn't have thought anyone would accept Felicity Huffman as a trans woman or Russell Crowe as a gay man, but they've both been there without anyone really noticing!

You're right Cruz, the only actress whiter than Roberts would be Nicole Kidman. Maybe Nic is keen for a remake of Foxy Brown. Super ginger fly.

reply

Playing a gay guy or trans person is a little different though. However I can see in the future any trans roles will be for trans actors only.

Nicole Kidman is Foxy Ranga *cue ghetto rap music* coming to screens near you!

reply

omg Foxy Ranga!! That made my day.

reply

Ever heard Aussie hip hop/rap? Our accent does not do much for the genre.

Also weird hearing Aussies, especially in the bush have it blaring from Utes.

reply

Oh yeah, heard a lot of it but not a huge fan of hip hop or rap, Australian or otherwise.

Hilltop Hoods are cool though.

reply

Not a fan of what they did to Only 19 they took all the haunting tones out of it but then rap does that to just about anything.

Kidman prior to plastic surgery overload would have done well in that type of 70's style film though the big red hair when it was still curly and all.

reply

How about James Gandolfini as a gay hit man in The Mexican? And he happens to play opposite Roberts in that one.

reply

Can't recall that one but I really don't see a problem. And if the Alphabet people say there is than they should stop playing straight roles as a way of enforcing their point.

reply

There wasn't. I thought he pulled it off well.

reply

pulled it off ...*sniggers*

Carry on..

reply

Yeah, it barely made a ripple in the Gandolfini tough, mobster persona we know.

reply

I just choked on my tea, lol.

reply

The best part is that the executive said that Harriet Tubman was alive years ago and no one would notice the race difference.

reply

Fantastic. He must be a democrat!

reply

Careful Cruz, that's veering perilously close to political talk there... don't want them to croft your ass ;)

reply

Lol };-)>

reply

It's Hollyweird. Does that surprise you?

😎

reply

This one does. It's all kinds of stupid.

reply

Yes it is.

😎

reply

Uh.......Julia Roberts is white!!

reply

Yeah like... Really white.

reply

I’ve seen whiter.

reply

Albino?

reply

Sure.

reply

Yeah like....really really white!

Hollywood has been making highly questionable choices for a long time apparently. In more fields than one. It's always been a mystery as to why anyone would hold their opinions in high regard.

reply

I haven't held any of their opinions in high regards for many decades! Most of them are full of shit as far as I'm concerned.

reply

Most of them, the ones held in such ridiculous high esteem, have spent so long being pampered and sucked up to that they believe all the bullshit that's been fed to them about how fucking wonderful and clever they are.
I'd give better odds that the common layman has a much clearer picture of reality. In fact, it HAS to be true.

reply

I have NO DOUBT that the common layman has a MUCH clearer picture of reality than the rich, pampered, spoiled, sexual predator Leftards of Hollyweird. They're living in their own little bubble.

Truer words were never spoken ;) 😎

Coolest emoji around!!

reply

Thanks, and as I said previously, you sir, are obviously a gentleman and a scholar.

reply

Not much better than being complemented by one's peers.

I meant to say - There is NOTHING better than being complemented by one's peers.

reply

Oooookay then.

😳

reply

This is news to me.

reply

The executive who pitched the idea thought that no one would notice.

reply

Pinheads!

reply

April's Fools was seven months ago....

reply

this is a joke right?

reply

Nope. One studio executives even said that Tubman was alive such a long time ago, that no one would know the difference. Oh to be a fly on the wall of that meeting.

reply

They got confused, they wanted Eric Roberts.
