Boogie Nights is better than There Will Be Blood

On almost every level, technical, artistic, and theatrically.

Now don’t get me wrong, TWBB is a masterpiece in its own right. But it’s not on the level of craft perfection that Boogie Nights is.

The two movies are completely different genres. Why would there be a comparison between them?

Because it’s the same director and one is underrated while the other is overrated?

I could definitely see Daniel Plainview dancing to the Commodores’ Machine Gun.

I like Boogie Night better than There Will be Blood except on the technical level.

I love the dolly and tracking shots on it. The shots seem planned out better with it's use of symmetry. I'm not taking away anything with Boogie Nights, it's still well directed.

Tracking shots in BN or TWBB? Boogie kills it with the camera work.

I love the tracking shots in There Will Be Blood. They're more subtle than how it's done in Boogie Nights. The first shot in Boogie Nights was very showy.

The entire movie is showy, to match the era. But it’s done so well.
