I tried to watch Deadpool (2016)

The opening credits were not funny and neither was Ryan Reynolds. Then he started speaking to the audience at seven minutes in. That was it for me.

I rated it 5/10. My review of Deadpool:

Deadpool may end up being the most overrated film of the year. Most audiences seem to love it but I was not impressed. The film isn't very funny and many of the jokes are juvenile or just stupid. The tone of the film is wildly inconsistent. It feels rushed and is all over the place but never really lands on what it wants to be. Yet the film is smug and thinks it is more clever than it is. Reynolds does a good job but the other characters are underdeveloped or one dimensional and we have no reason to care about them. I enjoyed the opening credits and the soundtrack was good but that was not sufficient to make Deadpool a good movie. The first major disappointment of the year for me.

good review based on my seven minutes of viewing. i agree with scorsese - it is not cinema.

I enjoyed the whole thing
I thought the humor and the soundtrack really made it work

My attempt at watching a superhero movie has been aborted.

Did you ever try TDK?

reply

It is on Netflix and that was next to try but my Steelers are on. This weekend.

I didn't hate Deadpool but I could never watch it again. The pounding of that shtick wears me out.

DEADPOOL ISNT A SUPERHERO...BAD CHOICE...THE MERC WITH THE MOUTH IS MORE A SUPERPOWERED ASSHOLE WHO OCCANSIONALLY,ACCIDENTILLY SAVES THE DAY.

reply

Being a fan of the original comic, I thought the film was spot on; I like juvenile humour.

reply

I didn't mind the first Deadpool but when I tried watching the second one I had to give up about 10 minutes in. It seemed like it was trying way too hard and the humour was more sad than funny.

I was familiar with deadpool in the comics for years before the movie came out. If anything he's more relatable now. Deadpool is unlike any other character you've ever seen.
He KNOWS he's a character in a comic book!
The movie was perfect. I own a copy.

Finally ! It took almost three years for chocolate and vanilla to become completely worn out.

Haven't you been trying to convince us lately that all Canadians are funny???

reply

Canadian comedians.

reply

Reynolds certainly seems to think he is a comedian.

reply

Not from the seven minutes I watched.

How can you say that!😱 Don't you remember the sitcom he had back in the late 90s/early 2000s together with that guy whose only claim to fame is that he slept with Tiffani-Amber Thiessen??? He also likes to play pranks on his wife and then posting about them on Twitter. The man's a comedic genius!

reply

I would brag about sleeping with Tiffani-Amber Thiessen. 😊

reply

As the biggest accomplishment in your life? That's just sad, Mitch.☹

reply

Better than accountant of the year.

reply

Did you get a plaque or some sort of trophy?

reply

I got a diploma like thing after 20 years.

reply

Hey, unlike Tiffani, you can hang it on your wall!
