Haven't you watched movies based on Stephen King books?? The accents in those are often Maine, Mass, etc.. JFK's accent was much like those, with a kind of trans-Atlantic tone. A bit like Jeffrey DeMunn in "Storm of the Century".

Not quite that simple. You also have to show contrition for major sins. The priest will keep your confidence but he may not grant absolution until you try.

Act like an asshole - try to make amends
You steal - you have to make reparations.
You kill - you have to turn yourself in.
