Most of those movies are riveting and awesome, but agree somewhat on these:

Godfather 2 (good but not as good as the first)
Raging Bull
Once Upon a Time in America
Mulholland Drive
Tree of Life (never saw it, looks uninteresting)
The Curious Case if Benjamin Button
Shakespeare in Love (absolutely dullsville)

reply

Shakespeare in Love; a wasted best picture winner. And the worst best picture of all time.

Capote
The Fighter

reply

The Lord of the Rings trilogy
Pulp Fiction (except for Bruce Willis' part)
Raging Bull

.......but I adore Brazil !!!

reply

I agree on Lord of the Rings, J.R. Tolkien isn't my cup of tea in general though.

I don't really get the big deal with Hitchcock's Psycho either, I mean the shower scene is classic but the rest of the movie is tedious and boring and terribly out dated.

reply

Only one movie that I just don't get why everyone thinks is such a masterpiece - Citizen Kane. I found it to be so boring and the only reason I watched it until the end was to find out was Rosebud was.

reply

OP, I liked all of the movies you listed except for
Godfather 2
2001: A Space Odyssey

reply

Ditto on "2001: Space Oddesy." I've tried to sit through that twice and fell asleep both times.

reply

Just curious how old are you? I'm not trying to undermind your age. I'm 59 I don't like most of those movies. And a few are considered masterpieces -

I'm 28

I think I saw Malcolm X in the theater and it didn't sink in, so I might agree there, but the one movie I thought was the biggest misfire was Benjamin Button. Seemed more like a rather obvious concept someone was bound to explore (the way Memento is told in reverse fashion) but it didn't quite speak to me in the way it was intended to. Maybe I'll watch it again someday, but I don't think it's as interesting as the plot suggests.
But most of the others I strongly disagree with. Fortunately, many of my favorite films I was able to see in an actual theater so maybe watching Brazil on the small screen doesn't have the same impact as going into it "blind" (as I did) and it was absolutely thrilling. Might get confusing in places, but still a great experience.

When I read your thread title your first one on your list is the one I thought of right off the bat. 2001: A Space Odyssey.

That was so slow running I would rather watch paint dry than sit through that again.
