So for you good dialogue is less than cgi and explosions?

reply

i like the second list better, also.

reply

Master and Commander is fuckin' sweet! I'm actually rereading the book series right now.

Also, if you enjoyed Mystic River, check out the show "City on a Hill."

reply

I second City on a Hill
'Gritty cop drama' is sort of an overused phrase but very suitable in this case

reply

Its coming back for Season 2. I wonder if Kevin Bacon will return.

reply

No release date announced, these things take so long!
We shall see
Very good show for sure

reply

Most movies you like are thrillers, while most movies you dislike are movies built around a character with slice of life elements.

It's just a matter of genre preferences.

reply

I agree with 2001, missed Milk, Tree of Life and Hoosiers so can't comment...
The rest I either liked or loved

I would add Citizen Kane

reply

Tree of Life was awful!

reply

Real talk citizen kane is boring asf

reply

You didn't like Citizen Kane? I thought it was Orson Welles' best film.

reply

All of that over regrets and a sled..?
The camera work was pretty great though, to be fair

reply

Midnight Cowboy? You have no soul

reply

I agree with all of them except for midnight cowboy and all the president's men.

reply

Shakespeare in Love I would agree.
Midnight Cowboy is a masterpiece.

reply

1. The Last Picture Show. It was just a drawn out rehash of Peyton Place.
2. Gladiator. Another rehash. I actually fell into a sound sleep the first time I watched it because of how predictable it was.
3. Star Trek: The Motion Picture. Yikes!!!! The most boring movie ever made, hands down, takes first prize.

reply

AtomicGirl, you can't be old enough to remember "Peyton Place"!

reply

I remember the Wizard of Oz and I'm nowhere near 80.

reply

???

That movie plays all the time on TV. Why would I need to have been old enough to know about it?

reply

I meant the old soap opera on TV. I didn't know there was a movie also.

reply

The soap opera was based on the movie, which was a buzillion times more trashy (or so I've heard, since I never saw the TV show).

reply

LOL - I'm old enough to remember the movie when it first came out and then the TV series. It was so popular that it was on TV three nights a week. Neither one was as trashy as the book, which I bought as a teenager and had to sneak around reading so my mother wouldn't know.

reply

Strange. Very strange....
