Do you stil buy movies?

And if so in what format? I use to buy DVDs every weekend and amassed quite a collection by the time streaming became the new preferred method of viewing. I'll still buy a DVD from time to time but lately I've found myself buying movies and shows on Amazon to add to my digital library. I stream Amazon Prime through my PS4 and it's pretty convenient to have some favorites available.

There are some good deals on Amazon too. Just wondering if others are still buying movies and what format if so?

reply

DIGITAL LIBRARY EQUALS PAYING FOR INVISIBLE SHIT THAT THEY CAN TAKE AWAY OR SHUT DOWN ANYTIME...FUCK THAT SHIT...I OWN 10,000 VHS,20,000 DVD AND ABOUT 5,000 BLU RAY.

reply

Would u like to sell come of those obsolete VHS tapes?

reply

A VHS IS ONLY OBSOLETE IF YOU UPGRADE TO DVD.

reply

Betamax and laser discs all the way!

reply

I OWN 3 BETAS AND ABOUT 20 LASERDISCS.AS WELL AS A COUPLE CED'S AND SOME MISC. OTHER FORMATS

reply

I was only kidding. I collect them too.

reply

what happens when they stop making dvd and blue ray players?

reply

I agree somewhat with what you say but I'm fairly certain Amazon will outlive me so I'm not too concerned about them shutting down lol

I still have all my DVDs but did away with VHS years ago. The quality degrades so much over the years and I haven't had a VHS player in quite a while

reply

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN THE INTERNET DIES.HARD COPY AND A CAR BATTERY BABY!

reply

Lol I use to tell people at work that when the zombie apocalypse arrives, they'd all be coming to me for DVDs.

reply

That sounds like a great setup.

reply

I have Amazon Prime but will buy a movie or TV show (digitally) if it's one of my favorites (unless it's a more or less permanent free one).

reply

I did away with cable so if there's a show I really like, I'll usually buy the episodes on Prime so I can watch the day after. I did this the last couple seasons of Better Call Saul.

reply

Yes, I still buy movies on occasion.
I am definitely a "hard copy" kind of guy, so I only buy DVDs or BluRays.
I do not own any films or TV shows on digital.

As far as music goes, I mostly buy from iTunes and then burn songs onto CDs.
That being said, this past week I did buy three CDs from Amazon -- Neil Young's Colorado, Van Morrison's Three Chords & the Truth and the soundtrack to the Springsteen film, Western Stars.

I have one of those Chase Visa cards which accumulates dollars in my Amazon account, so I just use those reward bucks when I want to buy something from Amazon.
My next purchase will be the film Blinded By the Light, which gets released on DVD/BluRay on November 19th.

reply

ABOUT A YEAR AGO I STOPPED BUYING ALBUMS FOREVER...NOW I JUST DOWNLOAD ANY AND EVERYTHING I WANT FROM YOUTUBE AND BURN IT ONTO DISCS....I HAVE EVERYTHING!!!

reply

I rarely buy any more but picked up some DVDs yesterday at a local library sale - 6 for $5.

reply

That's a deal too insane to pass up!

reply

I'm buying the Hobbs and Shaw movie today.

reply

DVD, Blu Ray, or digital?

reply

DVD I don't have money for blueray, plus my eyes are bad so really its a waste because it looks just the same as dvd.

reply

I haven't bought a film in over 10 years.

reply

I do often buy movies. I prefer to buy blu ray. Occasionally I will buy a dvd if it is used or really cheap. I sometimes buy digital movies on iTunes if they are on sale at a good price.

reply

Yes, DVD's and digital. For a while I was just buying digital on Amazon, but then after further reading, found out that it is possible that if Amazon broke their agreements with content owners then you really have no stake in that property and would no longer have access to that film. So, now I have transitioned back to buying DVD's. I am thinking about getting a blu-ray player though. I do have a VHS player somewhere in a box in the basement. Not sure if there are any VHS's left to play on it though.

reply

That's interesting, thanks for the information. I have a PS4 which plays both DVDs and Blu Rays but the problem is in this age of streaming even just putting DVDs in a player and navigating the menu seems like a lot of work lol. I may have to migrate back to DVDs/Blu Rays though.

reply

I will say that I stream A LOT of shows and do rent movies more often than buying them. I watch a lot of Netflix and then for film, I will rent it On Demand or on Amazon. If it's a movie that I really like, then I will buy it once the price drops, a year after the DVD release. I can't remember the last time I bought a DVD or digital right when it was released.

reply

I've bought a few digitals upon release but usually it will be spur of the moment purchases when they have sales on movies and I can pick them up for six or seven dollars each.
