October 31: Squirrel Appreciation Month ends today!

Just because this special month is ending, don't forget to continue to take notice of, and respect our Finer Rodents!

I personally saw many, many squirrels this month, sometimes in surprising places when I wasn't expecting them.

Let's continue to enjoy them all through the year, not forgetting to leave out easily-accessible food and water.

Keep having fun, and always stay aware of these extraordinary, vivacious creatures!

I admire your dedication to these fine little creatures but I'm pretty sure leaving food out for wild animals is courting disaster

reply

Is this really squirrel appreciation month?

reply

This is what I hear...it's also Leaf Blower, Pumpkin Beer and Scarecrow appreciation month

I just made those up but at this point let's all just feel free to make up months for random stuffπŸ‘

reply

I shall call this Conan the Barbarian appreciation month!!! πŸ‘

reply

It's like we've known each other forever;)

Dude, when I was a kid I started collecting Conan comic books and I guess the first ones were from the early 60’s. I ended up with number 1 through 200 something. In my early 20’s in my partying years I needed some money and sold them all to my sister for almost nothing but at least they are in the family. So yes, I have been a Conan fan in one way or another for a long time. Do your Conan interest go beyond the film?

reply

Great stories by Howard, de Camp was a fine stand in author/editor on the short stories and some of the full novels by others filled the bill
We probably own about the same number of the comics and the Conan movie was the best movie ever

I may be paddling this canoe by myself but oh well

Cheers

We do not put out "people food" for squirrels, but a special product called "Birdacious Bark Butter Bits", available through Wild Birds Unlimited. They are little suet nuggets that are loved by both birds and squirrels (and yes, they do share!).

They're pesky little rascals, but I finally learned how to keep them off the bird feeder. I switched from black oil sunflower seeds which they love, to safflower seeds, which they do NOT! So I have the last laugh!

Bwah ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!

😡

reply

Nice work! I guess the birds are ok with the switch?

reply

Thanks, and fortunately yes! But I have to give credit to my local ACE hardware store. One of the guys recommended it.

😎

reply

ACE is the place!

reply

"with the helpful hardware man!" I always go there first.

😎

reply

" ... the helpful hardware FOLKS" (Haha, but it's true!)

reply

I'm a big fan of Ace. The cashier today was dressed up as a bottle of glue or something haha.

reply

Lol.

They're entertaining to watch, but as a victim of some of their destructive mischief, I'm not very enamored of the little critters.

reply

They can utterly destroy your eaves and attic storage, your wiring and your insulation...they are great big pests in the house!

But bounding about the woods or jumping from one high treetop to to next they are amazing little critters

Just don't let them near the house!!!

I've had to trap them out of attics in the past (peanut butter on whitebread in a Hav-A-Hart trap fools them most of the time)

I understand your position...

reply

There is at least one particular place in my town where you will see Gray squirrels instead of the usual Brown ones. Not sure why that is.
