What streaming services do you subscribe to?

For me its Netflix and Crave (Canada only). It seems like there are so many these days. I would love to have one with just old movies here in Canada, as I believe they do in US?

Sometimes I do just download those which are hard to find anywhere. Anyone buy movies off Youtube, Google Play... Just curious how popular these are around here. :)

I have Netflix and Amazon Prime and I check out Tubi and Pluto and a Movies online app for android (free)...and I still have basic cable (though I wish I didn't)
I also stream from an online site that features new films and tv shows from premium cable... but I'd prefer not to name it.

reply

and you probably never watch your basic cable. we were going to get rid of the satellite dish that we have here, but then hockey season rolls around and there is never a steady way to watch games. Never use it besides, what a waste.

reply

You are right. I do not watch my basic cable.
I am keeping it (so far) for my mother-in-law that watches only news shows on cable with an occasional divergence to Wheel of Fortune on network tv and an even rarer TCM .
I haven't figured out a way to please her without spending just as much as I'm spending and/or in a way she'll accept.

There are some pretty good mentions here. Shout Factory is free. It's very reliable and has a little bit of everything - even anime that comes out of Japan. It's available in the United States and Canada. They also own Timeless media, which has a lot of classic westerns and retro stuff too.

Thanks for this, had never heard of it before.

They're mostly based in the west coast of the United States. A lot of complete series TV shows and hard to find DVD and Blu-rays are released by them, including all kinds of horror.

Glad to help. I discovered them through my love of Power Rangers, of all things.

Netflix and Hulu. I'm new to using it but Hulu seems like regular cable. All the same stuff from the big networks.

reply

There is always using the network channels online themselves I suppose too. CTV in Canada has lots of online stuff unlocked, as does CBC. Not sure how the channels do it in US? I believe Hulu is only available in US right?

reply

I guess so. This is my first week without regular cable, comcast, xfinity in the US. I'll say one thing, I get why older people may not want to go to Hulu , the menus back and forth are a pain. It was easier to record shows and play them on xfinity. Its not the most user friendly site. But Hulu seems to have everything regular Us Tv has, for us thats Nbc, Abc, Cbs, fox, food network, etc.. at a much lower cost.

Its nice that it gives you the content without having to have the cable channels. I think cable will go the way of the landline... not many people will have it.

depending on your tastes, you might find it worth giving criterion a try. they mostly tend towards prestige & foreign cinema, but they have a solid selection of classic films, & it's available in canada.

reply

and I love classic films. I almost feel like I don't want to add another bill, but this one is tempting.
