If you could have any car, even if they don't make it anymore?

My ex husband really wants a Porsche Caymen. I'm stuck between recreating the first car I ever owned, Honda Del Sol, or a new Miata.

A Tucker 48

reply

I had to look that up , very cool. When I was a kid I thought the old school Rolls Royce was the epitome of style. The Tucker seems similar old school class.

reply

There’s a good movie with Jeff Bridges about Tucker from 1988.

reply

Tucker was driven out of business because the innovations included as stock equipment in his vehicles would have forced the Big 3 to spend millions to keep up. Things like seat belts.

reply

Nice!

1957 Chevy Bel-Air
Convertible, of course. In this color.

reply

Wow that is cool, serious old school.

reply

Yep. The rest of the world can have their revved up Porsches, Ferraris, or whatever other super cars they like. All I need is nice cruiser like this for - yes - cruisin'! Tunes and some warm sunshine. What's not to like?

reply

Great choice.

reply

I don't everyone to think my ex is a loser with the Porsche. He actually owns a 1970 Plymouth Duster he is fixing up , but lately he's been obsessed with the Porsche.

reply

My everyday driver is a 1978 Chevrolet Silverado Big 10. So far it's restored mechanically. Unfortunately the body is extensively rusted. Maybe another 3 years of work. Good luck with your ex's Duster.

reply

He drove it through downtown last week and said it was one of the best experiences of his life. Everyone waved and called out to him. The car sale guy says he can sell it for 10k but he wants those waves, no sale.

reply

Nice ;)

reply

I’ve had many old Chevys. The cab corners and rockers are the bad rust areas on those models. I love restoring old trucks and the only project I have going now is a 98 Dodge 3500.

reply

Yes the rocker panels are in very bad condition along with the driver's door and the side-to-side cab mounts. The front fenders are fixable. Passenger's door, hood, and tailgate are fine. But the bed... lol! Holes bigger than my leg!
One ton trucks are expensive when you start replacing suspension parts and repairing diesel motors and transmissions. But worth it in the end because they last so long.

reply

Why would we think that - I love cars.

reply

Sporty: De Tomaso Pantera
Luxury: Rolls Royce Corniche

reply

I love the Pantera!

reply

Anyone thinking of acquiring one would do well to watch this. The car did have problems, which can be fixed.

reply

I'm not a car girl but is it scary that I might want this guy just so I can be a passenger in his cars. I can't drive a stick so there is no way i'm driving anything he owns.

reply

I know vibration, heat and legroom were awful. Considering the tech of time, tho, the car was decades ahead in things like handling and f/r weight ratios.

reply

Wow Jay Leno that car collection is unreal. I have to believe he has the best collection in the world.

reply

True dat! ;)

reply

I'm not a car girl by any stretch of the imagination but cool car.

reply

I think a 2020 Pantera would probably be awesome.

reply

A former boss of mine owned a Pantera and DeLorean. He loved 'em, but complained a lot because they were always in the shop.

reply

The costs of ownership of an exotic or ultra luxury car are considerable.

reply

The Del Sol was the first car I ever owned new. I totaled it in an accident 10 year later. That really hurt, not physically but mentally.

reply

Top choices!

reply

I don't miss the old cars. The carburetors were a pain.

reply

Hey, this is fantasy time. No PITA carburetors allowed. It's in the rules.

reply

my father spent half his life messing with carburetors.

reply

the "Last of the V8 Interceptors"

SHELBY MUSTANG

reply

I drove one of them on a track day last year. The brakes were so spongy that I had to start braking about a quarter of a mile before the bend, lol.

reply

Shelby was a living legend.

reply

Mercedes 300SL, the most beautiful car in the world according to me.

reply

Gorgeous car!
