Celebrities whose deaths were overshadowed?

I would say the most famous example is Farah Fawcett. There was huge outpouring and then a couple of hours later, we learned that Michael Jackson died which totally ecclipsed FF's death. At least with Farah Fawcett, she was battling an illness so it was kinda expected. With MJ, that came as a total surprise especially since he was planned to do the whole London comeback tour thing.

I felt bad for Farah though. To die on the same day as MJ, you will always be overshadowed. I think MJ was literally the most famous person in the world at that time.

Well at least she wasn't tainted by the association...

My 2 favorite bands are KISS and Queen.
On November 24, 1991 I heard that Eric Carr, then drummer of KISS had died from cancer. Later that day I heard Freddie Mercury of Queen died of AIDS.
Needless to say, I think I just went numb and was in such shock over both deaths. Both were only in their 40's. I loved them both dearly and still miss them.
The day the music died. 🎶

When Michael Jackson and Farrah Fawcett died the same day, it took me back to the loss of 2 rock and roll greats who died the same day in 1991.

Mother Teresa died about the same timeframe as Princess Diana.

Yes, I remember that.

My thoughts exactly!

I've heard Mother Teresa was an evil person though despite her whole "pure, squeaky clean" image.

You heard right.

You could make the argument that Ed McMahon's death was overshadowed by both of theirs.

reply

Yes, indeed.

reply

Groucho Marx's death was overshadowed by Elvis Presley who died three days earlier.

reply
