Movies you loved as a kid and as an adult?

Perhaps my taste is juvenile but there are a lot of movies that I loved when I was 10 and love now when I am 33.

Judgment night (1993)
Surviving the game (1994)
The usual suspects (1995)
The shawshank redemption (1994)
Speed (1994)
Heat (1995)
Primal fear (1996)
Varsity blues (1999)
The last supper (1995)

Fine list though I missed a couple of them

My wife and kids dislike The Dark Crystal (82) but I love it
It's a great fantasy film

reply

Was gonna say the dark crystal. Was my favorite as a kid, and still a favorite as an adult.
Also the Ten Commandments. Had a huge crush on Ramses as a kid and still think yul brenner is a fine specimen in that flick. Scrooge with Albert Finney.
...and of course, the wizard of oz.

reply

I never understood the 'Yul Brenner' is a sexy beast thing but maybe I'm the wrong demo LOL

I love this exchange - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DXjOOS4zAq4

reply

Wow, I never knew Brenner did 'bossy' so well LOL

I'm pretty sure I couldn't pull that off😃

reply

Yeah man, he makes a sexy bad boy...and that nefertari, what a minx!

reply

She was very 'fetching!'

Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid
Miracle on 34th Street
Early James Bond
Ben-Hur
The Ten Commandments
2001: A Space Odyssey
The Wizard of Oz
Planet of the Apes
Singin' in the Rain
Citizen Kane
The African Queen

I'm sure there are others but couldn't swear I saw them before I was in my teens.

reply

You loved citizen kane as a kid? That's rare.

reply

Back in the day, when I was a kid, mid 60s to around 1971, there were no VCRs or cable movie channels (we didn't have cable in any event). So there were revival house theaters that just played old movies. Even regular theaters would occasionally show older movies. And of course art house movie theaters.

My mom took me to see Citizen Kane when I was around 7 years old. I was fascinated by it.

The judgment night soundtrack was a big deal when that movie came out, some decent songs on there. I love the de la soul/ teenage fan club song “fallin”.

Grease (1978)
Monty Python and the Holy Grail (1975)
The Guns of Navarone (1961)
Too Late the Hero (1970)
The Longest Day (1962)
The Wild Geese (1978)
Father Goose (1964)
Jaws (1975)
Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981)
The Deep (1977)
Orca (1977)
Islands in the Stream (1977)
Wizard of Oz (1939)
Snow White (1937)
The Rescuers (1977)

There are a lot of movies I still love from when I was a kid but these are tops. :)

Good thread but I think I misunderstood it a little bit: I was expecting to see some kids/family movies but you guys listed more movies that were intended for an adult audience.

I’ll just do a little bit of both:

There are MANY children movies I still love but here are some examples: The neverending story, Homeward bound, The land before time, The Indian in the cupboard, short circuit, small soldiers, kindergarten cop, jingle all the way, The mighty ducks....

Adult: the burbs, coneheads, biodome, rush hour, Friday, blood in blood out, brave heart, T2: judgement day, multiplicity, suburbia, primal fear, forest gimp, Batman, street fighter...

reply

The Neverending Story. Definitely, what a great movie. I haven’t seen The Indian in the Cupboard as an adult, but I used to love that one too.
