The real-life characters of Joe Pesci in Goodfellas and Casino. But there is a certain anoint of comic relief that makes them less scary. Interesting.

My uncle, from Chicago, not Italian, had an Italian restaurant that wiseguys used to frequent (he is long since retired from that business). He knew who Anthony Spilotro (Nicky Santoro) was. He said he was the scariest M-F'er you could ever meet. Would kill his own mother if it was to his advantage.

In Casino, where Nicky has a winning strategy with bets--telling the bookie on a losing bet to go f**k himself, is true. He would have someone else place the bet, and when it came time to pay on a losing bet, he would tell said bookie to meet him at a certain place at a certain time. No one dared take up that offer.
