I cannot for the life of me understand why they haven't made a Columbo movie yet...
...with Mark Ruffalo playing the role of Columbo. It writes itself.

shareAll of a sudden I am hungry for a bowl of chili
shareGod no, Ruffalo is Mr. Bland.
shareMakes me think of the Popeye film in the early 80's as well as Depp's Lone Ranger.
Ok they were bad films but one key issue was that people weren't familiar with the characters.
I was a kid when the Colombo series was on but even I'm not that familiar with what's so special about him.
Not to mention Hollywood will just turn him into some kind of weird hybrid of other types of detectives.
I remember when the S.W.A.T. movie came out in 2003. I barely even knew what the show was and was surprised they made a movie on it because it was only on for two seasons.
shareSame here but at least swat is an ensemble cast and a basic action premise. It was an ok film but disposable. The tv series remake is woeful.
shareI liked 'The Lone Ranger' but I was never a fan of "Clodumbo".
Columbo won't translate to 2020 so well. Even the later eps lost their charm as technology came to play more and more of a roll in the cases.
shareOf all the doubts, I think this is one of the strongest. Columbo was never meant to be a realistic portrayal of police work, and we loved it anyway. I don't know if it would work today.
shareSomebody, somewhere, has this in the works. 😬 We just haven't heard about it yet.
