I cannot for the life of me understand why they haven't made a Columbo movie yet...

...with Mark Ruffalo playing the role of Columbo. It writes itself.

reply

Steve Martin as Inspector Clouseau worked out so well....

reply

Once you go Peter Sellers, the only way you can go afterward is down.

reply

don't mess with perfection.

reply

As I said, it writes itself. Almost no risk.

reply

remakes have a great history.

reply

Take the script from the first two episodes and reshoot it. I wanna see Mark Ruffalo in that trenchcoat dammit!

reply

it would be a bad parody.

reply

All of a sudden I am hungry for a bowl of chili

reply

God no, Ruffalo is Mr. Bland.

reply

You've got to visualize, Stratego. Picture him with that one squinted eye, using his thumb to rub his eyebrow while wearing that trenchcoat. It could work.

reply

I do not want to visualize Mr. Bland!

Anyway, he's too tall...I think...I'm trying not to visualize him...

reply

Lol!!

reply

Peter Dinklage in the trenchcoat

reply

YES!..THIS^

reply

That's ridiculous. Peter Dinklage is too tall for the role.

reply

I'm picturing him saying..."One more thing" with a slightly affected British accent...YES

reply

Makes me think of the Popeye film in the early 80's as well as Depp's Lone Ranger.

Ok they were bad films but one key issue was that people weren't familiar with the characters.

I was a kid when the Colombo series was on but even I'm not that familiar with what's so special about him.

Not to mention Hollywood will just turn him into some kind of weird hybrid of other types of detectives.

reply

I remember when the S.W.A.T. movie came out in 2003. I barely even knew what the show was and was surprised they made a movie on it because it was only on for two seasons.

reply

Same here but at least swat is an ensemble cast and a basic action premise. It was an ok film but disposable. The tv series remake is woeful.

reply

I liked 'The Lone Ranger' but I was never a fan of "Clodumbo".

reply

Columbo won't translate to 2020 so well. Even the later eps lost their charm as technology came to play more and more of a roll in the cases.

reply

Of all the doubts, I think this is one of the strongest. Columbo was never meant to be a realistic portrayal of police work, and we loved it anyway. I don't know if it would work today.

reply

Somebody, somewhere, has this in the works. 😬 We just haven't heard about it yet.
