Superhero Movies Ruined Our Cinematography

I really love Marvel (even more than DC) but I hate how almost every modern Action/Fantasy/Sci-Fi movie tries to be like a typical Marvel installement. That's not even funny anymore

reply

I like Marvel movies but I miss good R rated Action films. They are a thing of the past.

reply

John Wick.

reply

I liked the first one but got sick of it halfway through the second. Overkill, literally.

reply

more like a video game.

reply

The Third one is even worse.

reply

is that possible?

reply

They threw more and more convoluted backstory nobody understand.

reply

I will pass on number 3. The body count was ridiculous in the first two.

reply

It turned from a retired ex-assassin avenged his dog (easy story to get people interested) into a complex heirachical structure of fantasy world of assassins with even more over-the-top characters, everyone more ridiculous than the last one.

reply

better to keep it simple sometimes.

reply

I never bothered seeing that. Just looked meh to me.

reply

Gesundheit !

What’s sad is the John Wick would be nothing unique if it came out 20 years ago. Shaky cam is a fairly new invention, at least on a widespread scale as it is now. We’ve just forgotten that action flicks could be well shot, which most of them used to be. Hell, even Ghosts Of Mars, which is often considered to be one of the dumbest action films of the 2000’s and was a colassal failure upon release, is shot very similiarly to John Wick and probably would’ve done way better had it been released today.

reply

I'll check Ghost of Mars.

reply

Yes, this.

reply

They didn't just ruin movies. They also ruined the very comic book industry they got their material from.

reply

PFFFT.NOTHING HAS OR WILL BE RUINED...EXCEPT MAYBE YOUR ABILITY TO THINK CLEARLY.

reply

YeP. wEeD dOeS tHaT tO pEoPlE.

reply

Films in general have been very generic the past 20 or so years. Star Trek looks like Star Wars. Sherlock Holmes with Robert Downey Jr looked more like an action hero than a detective. James Bond could just as easily be Jason Bourne now.

Every superhero has to have that sarcastic humour with lots of word play which is fun but does it have to be in every film?

reply

My thoughts exactly!

reply

INCORRECT THOUGHT.BUT ENJOY.

reply

As for me I can’t get enough of the MCU franchise! Anything Marvel!

reply

SAME PAGE.

I’m going to purchase Phase 4 when released. I have 1,2,& 3. I wish I had seen this when it was first released. Not with my pocketbook now.

reply

Are the discs made out of gold?

reply

They must be! I saw this yesterday when searching for Phase 4. I cannot fathom paying $1,000.00 for this!

Video provides info. Brief case with Tasseract plus more.

reply

WHEN RELEASED IT WAS IN THE 3-4 HUNDRED RANGE.YOU CANT BE THE BIGGEST COOLEST MARVELHEAD ON THE BLOCK WITHOUT OVERPRICED BRIEFCASE COLLECTIBLES.

reply

Do you have it? I don’t pretend to “BE THE BIGGEST COOLEST MARVELHEAD ON THE BLOCK....” My grandson is and he can tell you anything and everything about MCU. Also, the Justice League, but not as big a fan of DC. I just located an almost new set for $375.

reply

I HAVE BEEN IN POSESSION OF 3 OF THEM OVER THE YEARS.I RUN A SMALL BUY/SELL BUSINESS SPECIALIZING IN MOVIES/MUSIC/BOOKS ETC.VERY COOL SET..END OF THE DAY THE INDIVIDUAL MOVIES ARE MORE THAN ENOUGH FOR MY COLLECTION.THE SUPER DUPER PACKAGING ON THE BRIEFCASE IS VERY ENTICING THOUGH.

reply

I still Prefer Star Wars Over MCU/DC anyday of the week

reply

I understand. What is strange with me is I’m a Trekkie, but don’t care so much about Star Wars. I saw the original when it was released. My grandson has all the movies, so I have watched them. He understands why I prefer Star Trek over Star Wars. BTW, I do hope Jar Jar Binks has been vaporized!

reply

how?

reply

You can only have so many ordinary people develop powers and do random property damage in so many ways before the novelty wears off.

The sad part is, I loved superhero movies, until there were too many of them, and some went off in a direction I didn't like :(. That's the real tragedy of it.

reply

NOT TRUE.ORDINARY DUDES PICKED UP GUNS AND FOUGHT BACK IN WESTERNS FOR DECADES AND DECADES.THEY STILL MAKE WESTERNS.YOUR HATE IS UNDERMINING YOUR POINTS.

reply

Hey, let’s be nice! What do you gain by maligning others who don’t share YOUR VIEW. Some people don’t care for Superhero movies....that’s OK. I don’t like R rated movies (Hi, Shoggie) due to the profanity. That’s another reason I thoroughly enjoy MCU, DC, Star Trek movies...I don’t wince at the dialogue. To me this proves great movies can be made without the f-bomb!

We started watching Goliath last evening....had to turn it off due to the profanity. My husband was an army vet and he doesn’t like it.

reply

Sorry to cut in but I'll have what he's having!

AmeriGirl,

When I was a little gal I had stacks and stacks of comic books. That was 64 years ago! Wish I had saved them! But, to the point even though I’m, (ahem, cough, cough,) 76 years old I love these movies. I go to the theater by myself when a new one is released. The novelty has never worn off. How can anyone tire of “Dr. Strange”, Thor, Loki (the guy you hate to love!), Ironman, Captain America, Captain Marvel, Hawkeye, Spiderman, Black Panther, Black Widow, etc. They not only have great stories together, they each can hold their own.

Loki is going to be a tv series. I’m lost now that Marvel: Agents of Shield (tv) is no more. Nope! Never will tire of them. And I’m still a Trekkie!

reply

Lol I think it was superman vs batman I recall getting super bored with the long drawn out fight sequence between them.

Reminds me of Team America where in order to stop the bad guys destroying the city they errr destroy the city.

reply

Superhero movies are great, I love them, I've watched 3 in the last 2 days and have a few more on my various streaming services to watch

Why is everyone so down on the Capes?
They are pure escapist fun and many feature terrific actors...I love a good Superhero movie
Maybe I'm immature

As to the rest of 'cinema' a good crime drama or a decent horror movie is always welcome (an R rating is always promising!)

Overall I think the Capes do boffo box office and that $$$ funds other projects

You could always check out the Indies...some 'smaller' movies are quite good

reply

These kind of films are an escape from reality which is badly needed these days. LOL

reply

Good point but the problem is this: many Marvel fanboys stay in that "fictional world" which is NOT needed these days. They hate everyone with different opinion and insult every other movie. Ridiculous
