Do you mind reading subtitles when you watch a foreign language film, or would you prefer it to be dubbed into your own language?
I'd rather read subtitles. Watching someone talk and their lip movements don't match what I'm hearing would drive me a bit crazy, I think.
Subtitles, of course. Unless it's a chopsockey film or an Italian Hercules movie
sharethe only time dubbing works for me is in animation. usually the mouth movements are vague enough in animated films that watching a dubbed version is not distracting. i caught your name twice in the theatres, one dubbed the other subbed, & i actually preferred the dubbed version in that instance, if only because it gave me more time to appreciate the great animation.
otherwise, dubbed films are a scourge & ought to be avoided, i'd say.

The foreign languages amuse me, I like the sound of a pretty girl talking Korean, Italian, French or whatever...
Without reading any replies yet, I'll cry out SUBTITLES !! All the time. I don't speak any foreign languages, but I wish I did. The Romance languages sound fun. And watching a person talk and hearing a completely different sentence come out is flat bizarre and takes me out of the movie.
shareI took French and Spanish in high school, so occasionally I try to follow what is being said without subtitles, but sadly, I quickly get lost and revert to subtitles.
shareSubtitles for sure. Sometimes dubbing can be tolerated if the actor does their own dubbing, but even then I much prefer to hear it as intended.
