I recently had the pleasure of rewatching The Scarlet Pimpernel (1982) I have always enjoyed the sword fight between Percy and Chauvelin.
There have been some really enjoyable sword fights in movies, what's your favouorite?
My favourite is Wesley and Inigo in the Princess Bride (1987). The banter and music just make me so happy.

The most action-packed, dramatic, intense sword fight I've ever seen in a movie was between two women!
And it worked because there were all sorts of levels of interpersonal drama, and also, because they were so oddly matched. The person with superior skill vs the person with the invincible weapon, it was totally unclear who had the advantage.

shareJet Li vs Donnie Yen courtyard fight in Hero was amazing, despite some questionable editing and soundtrack choices.
Followed by Uma Thurman in the yellow Bruce Lee jumpsuit scene in Kill Bill against the Crazy 88's.
Honorable mention to Indiana Jones casually shooting that guy after his sword demonstration in Raiders of the Lost Ark.
Kill Bill is up there on my list as well.

I've only seen Rob Roy once, and I honestly don't remember that one. I will have to check it out as I remember liking the movie.

shareNo. It does not count. People don’t understand what an extremely fragile weapon is. A sword can only block a slashing (as opposed to a thrusting) attack if the cutting edge of the blade meets the cutting edge of the attack at a precise 90-degree angle. If not, the defending blade will shatter.
The lightsabers, made of light and not metal, have no such disadvantage. Any lug can just hack away with a lightsaber. The lightsaber removes the poetry and art from swordplay.
