I'm cheating by two years due to my woeful ignorance of recent indy cinema:

Much like TexasJack, I am going to "sort of cheat" by listing a film which I saw in 2007. However, it did not get officially released until March, 2009.
I've got no problem doing this because the original poster, yatzo376, also cheated by including two films from 2008.
Therefore, my choice is ...
The Cake Eaters - comedy/drama/romance
starring Elizabeth Ashley, Bruce Dern, Kristen Stewart, Aaron Stanford and Jayce Bartok; directed by Mary Stuart Masterson
I first saw this film at The Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival in November, 2007 where it won the Audience Award for Best American Indie. The acting was excellent all around. I also enjoyed the white cake with chocolate sauce on the side which they served after the showing of the film. It was there that I got to meet Mary Stuart Masterson. She looked great.

I'll have to check that one out Ckid..., and yes, I did cheat.

I had to include those two 08 films.

I'm inspiring lawlessness everywhere! 😈

The Cake Eaters was very good. I think it's the first time I saw Kristen Stewart.

i haven't watched blue jay yet. for some reason i thought it had received sniffy reviews, but it has a fairly solid 69% rating on metacritic. i'll probably try to catch it this week.

i really liked dude bro party massacre...fun, silly, good time. it's still streaming on shudder, so i might give that another go too.
