Are There Any Foods That You Won’t Eat?

Are there foods you just won’t eat, for whatever reason(s) you may have. I mean fresh food, of course, not food that’s exceeded its shelf life. And you may have personal ethical, dietary or religious imperatives that keep things off your menu. Mine are:

Lobster, because it looks too much like a cockroach.

Liverwurst, because of the taste and texture. I do, however, enjoy liver pate and all other pates. Go figure.

No insect or worm, no matter how gussied-up its culinary presentation.

Brazilian Pizza, no reason need be given. Just take a look at one. You’ll know.

How about you?

I've tried them all before and never again ⤵️

Liver 🤮
Kidney 🤮
Blue Stilton
Tripe
Steak Tartare 🤮
Campari
Linda McCartney's vegetarian sausages 🤮
Pigs trotters 🤮
Lamb

reply

I am not a fan of lamb. Your other choices are obviously yechh!

reply

The smell and its too chewy.

reply

Only good for clothing and blankets.

reply

Agreed 😆

reply

Olives and liver, that's it

reply

Oh yeah.. jellyfish.

I actually like to see jellyfish on the menu of a Chinese restaurant, because it means they serve authentic food, the sort of things people eat in China, not Chinese-American like at most California places. So I like to look at the "jellyfish' on the menu, and order something else.

Will you eat Fugu, blowfish sashimi?

I’ve thought about opening The Dangerous Foods Cafe, featuring rare pork, Fugu, poisonous snake meat (perfectly safe), shark and a salad bar with no sneeze screen. And we never ask, “Do you have any food allergies?” The House wine is Absenthe. Our Cherries Jubilee is made with lit cherry bombs. You sign a waiver before we seat you.

reply

No, I'd give the fugu a pass, even if I was absolutely sure the chef had been given the rigorous training Japanese fugu chefs get, and had never poisoned anyone ever. Fugu is supposed to make the eater slightly high, traces of the neurotoxin that can render an improperly prepared portion deadly can cause a buzz. And since I'm not into alcohol or drugs, I really would rather avoid intoxicating foods.

Good luck with your Dangerous Foods Café, pal, and especially good luck getting it insured!

reply

Who said anything about getting insured? I know guys with juice and muscle. I live in Boston, the most corrupt city in the US.

But thanks for caring. Have some Fugu on the House. Just sign here.

It is a fun idea, isn’t it?

reply

Oooh, always the ultimate badass...

reply

Oooh, thanks for reminding me that I won't eat shark. Or any endangered animal.

reply

To speak seriously, as a former restaurant consultant, Mako Shark is not infrequently passed off as swordfish in restaurants. I respect your values. You may want to ask your server if s/he can confirm the fish you are about to order.

reply

I don't eat a lot of swordfish where I am, being so landlocked and all, but thank you for the tip. I have eaten shark and shark fin in the past, and I just can't anymore. I like them too much to eat them.

reply

You could also serve Gator meat.

reply

Sushi

reply

I have never eaten these foods:

Lobster does look like a giant roach.
Shrimp looks like worms.
Oysters, clams and snails.
Brussel sprouts
Salmon - that color.
Eel
Cow's tongue
Ox tails
Goat cheese or milk

reply

OMG the thought of eel disgusts me. And for some reason that I am not sure of, I am creeped out at the thought of goat's milk/cheese.

reply

Theres a bunch of stuff I can't eat.

Mushrooms
Raw tomatoes (texture thing but love the taste of tomato)
Mustard
Rhubarb
Sauer kraut
Dark meat of any kind
Any type of instestine, tongue, liver, etc
Caviar
Clams/oysters
Asparagus
Unbreaded shrimp
Anchovies
Blackberries
Most pork aside from bacon,salami,pepperoni

I'm sure there's more, but those are the standouts.

reply

Sorry for your trouble with tomatoes, but at least there are many tomato sauces and soups for you to enjoy!

reply

Its weird.. I planted some cherry tomatoes in my garden.. I used them to make sun-dried tomatoes and they were delicious. And I love marinara/Spaghetti sauce... Just can't eat them raw for some reason

I can just snack on sun-dried tomatoes all day.

No idea. Just something irks me when I eat them raw.

reply

Chicken thigh/drumstick technically dark, and yummy. Don't like dark other than that. Finally someone who listed mushrooms other than me.

reply

Mushrooms are for weirdos

They don't even have a flavor. Just a slimy, rubbery feel to them.

Hard pass.

reply

Have you ever had real Sauerkraut? Not the fake stuff that comes in a can.

Real Sauerkraut is just cabbage, salt and time. It gets the sour flavor from lacto-fermintation. The fake stuff uses vinegar which is nasty.

reply

Testicles and penis

reply

I'll add Chicken sashimi, Never tried it and i never will. I'd rather eat a decomposed tramp.

reply

I didn’t even know there was such a thing. Sashimi/sushi work best with seafood and vegetables. I do relish steak Tartare, but I think other terrain flesh is best when cooked; perhaps with the exception of eggs, which CAN be drunk raw, but are still better fried, boiled, poached/coddled/shirred. BTW, it’s hard to poach an egg (as in cook, not steal). There are restaurants that reserve the right not to poach an egg.

But caviar (Beluga, Sevruga, Ossetra, Chinese gold)? Yum. Off a mother-of-pearl spoon with ice-cold Brut Champagne. Not sparkling wine. Not Methode Champanoise. Champagne. Plus charming company.

Makes me want to give it another shot.

I love fruit but I could never stand the taste of raisins or bananas. Even worse than bananas is anything banana flavored! Yuck! Even as a baby my mom said I would spit out banana flavored baby food.

I ate a bite of liver by accident one time, never again! I won't eat anything uncooked like sushi. Would never consider eating kidney or tripe.

reply

Bananas are so yucky. In a smoothie with other fruit is ok, but by themselves would never eat.

reply

Whenever I say I hate bananas, people tell me that they are good for you. I KNOW that! But I can't stand the flavor or smell.

There are all kinds of foods that people will not eat for various reasons. I have a theory about my banana hatred. My mom said that when she was expecting me, she ate a big bag of banana flavored candies and got sick. She heaved up the whole bag. When I was very little she bought those candies once in a while and I couldn't stand the smell of them. i thought they were nauseating.

I think I got sick in utero and before i even knew what they were, I hated bananas!

reply

I understand you won't even see Woody Allen's Bananas. hehe
