‘Battlestar Galactica’ Reboot From Sam Esmail in the Works

“Battlestar Galactica” is getting another reboot, this time at NBCUniversal’s upcoming streaming service.

The company unveiled its streaming plans on Tuesday, with one of several major announcements being another reboot of the space opera from UCP and “Homecoming” and “Mr. Robot” creator Sam Esmail.

Esmail will executive produce the new series alongside Chad Hamilton of his Esmail Corp. banner. No further details about the upcoming series were released, but the service, which is named Peacock, is set to launch in April 2020. A subscription price has yet to be announced.

Hope they do a good job of it.

I might be interested if he's going to write and direct -- but that's not the case here.

It's going to be very hard to top the 2003-09 version as far as actors and their acting chops are concerned. They might well be able to improve on the writing though. The Final Five was rubbish and the show's ending was anti-climactic.

It got messy toward the end. I tell people who haven't seen it to just watch the initial mini-series.

The first season was very good as well but after that you had to endure a fair bit of dross to find the gold nuggets.

i think the first season & the first half of s2 were great, one of the best runs of any tv show that i've seen, not that i've personally watched a lot.

it definitely couldn't sustain that level, but i still think the entire series is worth watching.

i don't even mind the last episode, except for the last 10 minutes, which are excruciatingly awful.

Have you seen either Homecoming or Mr. Robot?

reply

Love Mr Robot. Wasn't that impressed with Homecoming but I'm not a big Julia Roberts fan so...

i don't watch any tv these days - i just don't want to dedicate that much time to one thing - but i am not opposed to this, and might even watch it if it ever comes to be.

i think the entire concept of the series is one that is ripe for differing interpretations, and i'd be interested in seeing what someone new cold bring to it.
