You think they will use 'Thank You For Being A Friend?'

reply

Good question. It's all about who owns the rights and what $$ they want for them.

reply

The guy who wrote and sang it Andrew Gold died a few years ago. He wasn't that old.

reply

Oh, and how much money Netflix has left after the Seinfeld thing.

reply

Netflix makes billions a year, $500M a year for Seinfeld is nothing to them.

reply

Ummm, am I missing something here? That article doesn't say this is a remake or reboot, just that it's "like" The Golden Girls because it's going to star 4 older women. I'm kind of glad about this, I have serious reboot fatigue.

Cyndi Lauper is an interesting casting choice. Might be one to watch out for.

reply

LAUPER WAS EXCELLENT DURING HER SHORT STINT ON MAD ABOUT YOU.

reply

I heard that but I never saw her in Mad About You, was never a fan of that show.

Come to think of it I think I've only ever seen Lauper act in that movie Vibes with Jeff Goldblum. Awful film, but from what I remember she was fine.

But man, can she sing!

โ€œGirls Just Want To Have Funโ€

She definitely had a voice, but I would classify her as a โ€œOne Hit Wonderโ€. She was a quirky gal!

reply

Oh buddy you're a tough critic! I think she had a few more hits than that. True Colors, Time After Time, All Through The Night, I Drove All Night, Money Changes Everything.... the friggin Goonies theme for God's sake!!

Admittedly her popularity declined in the 90s but she's consistently released music, and a lot of it great, since then.

She's had great success in theatre too recently. She's the first solo woman to win the Tony award Best Score, for Kinky Boots.

Yeah, you could say I'm a fan.

reply

Youโ€™re right. After I wrote that I went back and checked. Iโ€™ll give you True Colors & Time After Time. I honestly donโ€™t remember the others. I didnโ€™t watch the Goonies. Truth is she is/was not of my era. And yes, I can tell you are a fan....nothing wrong with that. But, I canโ€™t get Girls Just....out of my head!

reply

Please say it isnโ€™t so! Why do they do this? You cannot better a classic. Are the producers so devoid of ideas and scriptwriters they have to dig into classic archives? ๐Ÿ˜ก

reply

It's ok, it's not a remake :)

reply

Thanks for the update, but I wish it wasnโ€™t even mentioned โ€œ*like* Golden Girls.โ€

reply

Ah I don't know, I think it's about time there was a popular sitcom starring older women again. I suppose you have Grace and Frankie, but I'd be willing to give a Golden Girls-like show a go. It's a hard dynamic to recapture though, those four ladies had such amazing chemistry, one of the tightest comedic ensembles in TV history. Hard act to follow.

reply

We watch them every night, followed by Frasier, over and over. They are on when we fall asleep. We know the scripts, but we still enjoy and laugh over them. We actually miss them when they go on hiatus during the holidays. The two shows are probably being watched by a third generation so they are new to some.

reply

Long may they live on!

reply

Yes!! What is strange I actually felt like I lost a friend when Rue McClanahan (Blanche) died. She was my favorite.

reply

I understand that. I used to have a pretty ambivalent attitude towards celebrities dying until David Bowie passed away and I felt genuinely anguished, like I lost a true friend who understood and represented me through his music, even though we've never met. It was a weird feeling.

I liked Blanche too, but I'm a bit more predictable, Rose was always my favourite. "Back in Saint Olaf..." lol

reply

Guaranteed two of them aren't going to be white to avoid backlash. Having one minority will come off as token, two of them I she perfect amount to avoid it.
