Newcastle - here I come.

I’m sat in an airport bar again. This time awaiting a 40 minute flight up north to Newcastle for a couple of days. Not the most glamorous place, but it’s work related, so it has to be done.

reply

I love airport bars.

reply

I love anywhere I can get alcohol, lol.

reply

It's a good night out in Newcastle. H'way the toon 🍺

reply

Super people. Even in Winter the girls wear belts for skirts.

reply

There's some tidy boilers up there.

Jess!

reply

I want to get in on the fun!
Does Geordie's Jumpers have a website?
I want to be cool at the pub too!!

reply

You need to know the lingo:
Lesson 1 - Wey ay man? - How are you?

reply

I can't keep this lingo straight
Seems I can expect a pool stick to my noggin!

But I'll be the coolest corpse in Geordie's Jumpers👍

reply

Ok, Lesson 2 :
Divvan ah gan my missus a hoor - I say old chap, did you say my girlfriend was a prostitute?

reply

Oof!
I just failed quiz 2
I'm toast😳

reply

Mate, you’ve got no chance. I’m English and even I’ve got no idea what they’re saying most if the time.

reply

So it's more or less American 'jive..?'
I don't understand jive either!

reply

It’s regional to say the least.

reply

Newcastle-under-Lyme or Newcastle upon Tyne?

reply

On the Tyne like, man.

reply

Sorry, I meant on t’ Toon like mon.

reply

My home toon! Newcastle is a crackin’ city. Enjoy!

reply

I’ve been coming up here for about 30 years and cannae fault youse guys like. The Geordies know how to party!

reply

Whey aye! My party days in the Big Market are long past now, but I still love a more civilised night out on the Quayside when I visit home a couple of times a year.

reply

Staying in the Crowne Plaza tonight. Walwick Hall in Hexham tomorrow.

reply

Oh, Hexham is a lovely little town!

reply

Never been there. Everyone says it’s nice.

reply

Never been to England. Always wanted to go. As a Canadian, they feel like cousins.

reply

Hope you get a chance to come over one day.

reply

Enjoy. What are you drinking?

reply

Last night Pinot Grigio, today beer. All free, hurrah!

reply

Lucky.

reply

It’s a conference to thank people for their support. I normally go to 3 or 4 a year.

reply

That sounds interesting. What are they supporting exactly?

reply

I run a Financial Consultancy, so we do a lot of investments, pensions, mortgages and insurance. Every now and again a provider will want to say thanks for the support. Sometimes it'll be local or nearby like Southampton. Sometimes I might have to go to places like London, Birmingham, Cardiff, Manchester or Newcastle. Sometimes it can be more glamourous like New York, Dubai, Monte Carlo, Paris, Lisbon, Seville, Rome etc.

reply

That's pretty cool. Do you enjoy the work? Or is the pay-off of getting paid to travel at least worth it?

reply

I've been running my company for 20 years now and absolutely love it. When I first started it was tremendously hard work and stupidly long hours, but it was definitely worth it, as I'm able to relax a lot more now.

reply

Yeah, the first years are always the hardest in business. Must be nice to run your own company. Glad you like it AND you get to travel. Enjoy this time. You deserve it - I mean, you earned it.

reply

Thanks, but the best bit is, as a company, we can genuinely transform peoples lives for the better. I get no end of pleasure seeing people getting on in life.

reply

That's kinda aspirational. I hope to run my own business someday, one that has the same positive transformative nature. Totally well deserved.

reply

If you ever want any advice, ask away. I'm a great believer in spreading the knowledge around. One of my favourite phrases is, 'The hand that gives, receives'.

reply

Thanks. I'll chew on it and get back to you.

reply

Newcastle Brown Ale isn't even made in Newcastle anymore! Its made by Heineken in the Netherlands!

reply

I've never really liked the brown stuff.

reply

Really? I worked in a sports bar years ago and newky brown was always selling out. Prefer a nice merlot myself 😸🍷

reply

I don't know why, but we used to drink it a lot on high school haha.
