Neighborhood watch? 👀

Does anyone here belong to a neighborhood watch? I'm curious what you think about them. There's a meeting early this coming week to start one in my neighborhood.

reply

There is a neighborhood watch in my neighborhood, but I didn't join it. I'm a rather private person.

reply

I'll go to the meeting so that I know what's going on, but I kind of doubt we'll end up with a watch team or whatever you call it. You need to have at least six neighbors on the block that will join and I kind of doubt we'll have enough volunteers. It's about knowing your neighbors, knowing who belongs in the neighborhood. I do know most of my neighbors, at least on sight, even though I don't talk to all of them regularly.

reply

I doubt there is one here. It's a fairly tame neighbourhood.

I've lived before where I saw the signs so assume there was an actual neighbourhood watch group, but never if knew there were meetings. I only informally kept my eye out for anything suspicious, but then that's something I did before the signs were up.

Curious what the meetings are all about. If you go, you can report back what goes on in them.

reply

No
I live in a wonderfully boring area in the middle of thousands of forested acres...I'm more likely to get mauled by wildlife than have shitheels bust into the house
The shitheels better not try it:)

No watch here

reply

I live in a pretty safe neighbourhood. I don't think there is one. I probably would at least check one out if there were one though.

reply

This is dying out here in Toronto, haven't heard of one in years.

reply

They're still around, but it's up to each neighborhood to decide if they want one. I'd like to see one around here. Not that my neighborhood is sketchy or anything, but crime happens everywhere and I think it's a good idea for me to at least go to the meeting and see what the interest is around here.

reply

I think the neighborhood watch is going the way of Blockbuster. At least around here it is. There's a rusted old sign down the street I've noticed, but I'm not aware of any active groups anymore. With the advent of affordable technology, security cameras seem like a good investment.

reply

You may have a valid point. With so many folks having those security cameras they probably think they don't need the watch group anymore.

reply

security cameras are not always monitored...... people walking around stroking guns is a much better detergent

I live in a really safe area. There's nothing to see.

Theres one developed on facebook for my town in the last year or so , sharing pictures and storys of local crime , and cctv shots of suspects etc. I think they are about to start patrolling the streets too!
